I’ve had my ‘19 TRDOR for about 2 months. I had heard about Uwarrie since I moved here years ago. I never had anything to take down there until now. My neighbor and I decided to go wheel down there. Neither he nor I have ever been. lessons learned from the trip: 1. Stock predator side steps are like giant land anchors when your truck isn’t raised. I developed a Squinting pucker reaction every time I went over a whoop. 2. The term medium difficulty is pretty challenging in a stock pickup. 3. After the steps were “relocated” the truck had much better clearance. 4. It would probably be better with someone familiar with the trail system. Overall The TRD is a wicked capable truck.

Oh no! I'm reporting you to the authorities for Predator step abuse! You big meenie!

Seriously though, I have the same steps on my OR. I really like them but cringe every time I go over an obstacle. Have not damaged them yet but I'm sure it coming. You are right, the OR is a fantastically capable truck off-road right from the factory.

I think you’ll find that with the steps removed and carefully chosen lines, your stock truck is capable of some of the guidebook rated “hard” lines. I took my 2015 all the hell over Colorado and Utah and New Mexico, fully stock for a year and did a number of Colorado and utah “hard” trails.

welcome to TW and enjoy that truck!

Welcome to the forum, as stated before if you plan on more adventures in off roading then sliders are the way to go. My wife is short so she insisted on me installing huge anchors and we went camping on a goat trail and I damn near took one out. If I had I’d be shopping sliders today!

I used an angle grinder and cut off the bent steps. Textured black bedliner to cover the exposed metal. It will do until I pick up some real sliders and either an aluminum or steel skid plate.
