That will work too. More mud less snow. Plus will give me a chance to get my Winch and bumper mounted.

I will see if I can become a part of one of these organizations to help when they have those clean up days.
I have helped in a forest clean up before and would like to do so again.
I usually make it a point to at least bring some found trash out with me when I find it, but helping on an organized clean up makes a much larger difference.

Thanks Bryan! Yesterday I took the truck to work and found some very crusty snow that challenged both lockers even

BLM Medford District also has a Rogue River cleanup event every year, I believe. Organized cleanups are the safest best way to get involved in cleanup efforts.

Have to be extremely cautious rummaging through and removing illegal dumps alone. Especially if you see any brown glass containers which can indicate a meth dump. Very nasty stuff that you can breath or that can penetrate your skin. As a rule I mark the location and report dumps I find to the BLM or FS and don’t mess with them.

Very definitely, although we have not Found one yet; fingers crossed. They’ve also been found large plastic containers as well.

Our most notable dump was a couch found on our CA lands that we buried onsite after bringing in a excavator. About a year later someone confessed to a murder saying that the body was placed underneath a couch cushions and was dumped out in the woods...no joke

I’ve been to the edge of the wilderness and the biscuit burn, off the Onion Mtn access rd out to Horse Mtn couple of years ago, didn’t know there was a through road to brookings.

Same here... I have studied a lot of maps looking for a way but no dice.

Edit: He says Takilma to Brookings... wouldn't you be forced to cross the highway at some point? The Kalmiopsis is on the north side of the highway and Takilma is off to the south?

Either way I would like to see the way through or along the Kalmiopsis Wilderness to Brookings if it exsists.

Im headed out in the morning to do a quick 4x4 loop around the hills outside Jacksonville. Probably about an hour - hour and a half drive total.
If anyone is interested in going I'll check back here in the morning. Probably shoot for leaving around 9 or 10 am.

Yep crossed pavement at the 199 south of O’Brien and DID NOT drive thru the Wilderness.
My route was south but the only way across the Smith river was at the Rockland bridge (also paved a bit) Looking on g/earth most of the road is in NorCal and the “Wimer/ 305” dumps out in Fort Dick but I remember pushing north and rolling out thru the beautiful Winchuck River.
I really need to find my track logs, there were sooo many roads in Oregon and so few gas stations. I remember a it being a maze of trails and rarely marked, I relied on my GPS heavily which was really hard on a M/C.
I Spent some idle time one night waiting for gas after popping out of the forest near HappyCamp, I needed gas and could only find a card lock station. I had enough range for a round trip but burned so much fuel checking out all the interesting trails I was coming up short. The GPS is a blessing and a curse.

Wish I would have known earlier! Already planned a trip to the coast to let the dogs run on the beach today.
Let us know how it goes and take some pics to share!

    Happy Trails!

I love just wandering man! It's the best really! Pick a destination and just take the day getting there! And if you actually make it , that's just a bonus haha.

Ahh yes. The biscuit fire... my uncle was on that one... we was instructed to give a tour to some high level people... turns out it was the president. He told me that after the meeting and tour were done. About 8-12 dudes (secret service) popped out of the woods in camo that he didn’t even know were there.

About 8 years ago me and some family friends rode motorcycles from O'Brien to the Smith River at just about the Oregon border if I remember correctly. There were a few different options on routes to take, we took a bad route that was really rocky, should have stuck to the main route. We had someone familiar with the area take us through there so we didn't get lost. I have always wanted to stay on the main road and try it with a truck.

Thats what we do, pick a direction and drive out half a tank, then find another road out, see a lot of pretty country.

Did a little wheeling outside Jacksonville this morning. I took it pretty easy on the truck since I just installed the new suspension and just wanted to gently break it in and get it ready for the next re-torque of all the bolts.

Once I get the new wheels and tires I will make the harder loop across the top, if anyone wants to go I'll post up the next trip a few weeks from now!

The beginning of the harder loop...

Looks like my mud flap mod worked on the rear haha!

I’m in for March 14 or 15. I think I’ve looked at that property, a few miles West of Jacksonville

    I bet you have ;)

It's about a 15 min drive above the Jacksonville hiking trails, if you know how to make the loop over to East Forest Creek your good.
The harder route just goes up one last 4wheel road and then joins the MRA trails to circle around. Some good 3 wheel action along with some slippery climbs when its wet and an interesting slide at the very end, that if slick enough, might add to any gray hairs one might have lol!
