    If you need more traction, get on the brake pedal with one foot and give it more throttle...creating drag with the brakes will make the diff send power to both wheels....kinda like a "soft" locker. I dunno if Toyota will let you do that after their "unintended acceleration" updates though...

    that's effectively what the E-trac does...and it works damn well.

    They never disengage, just slip (Why they can wear out). The clutch pack binds the two axles together. In an open diff, they are not. Instead, the spiders need resistance from the tires to transfer load. The amount of spring force on the clutch packs determines how tightly bound together they are. The reason the tires don't chirp when turning is the clutch slipping to allow the different rotational speeds. When everything is tight and working, it is usually enough binding strength to keep both wheels spinning when one loses traction. One tire cannot spin faster than the other because they are bound together via the clutch.

    3rd Gen OR suspension, wheels and tires all 4 corners.
    Noted. The truck still does a good brake stand, so I’ll be starting with that next time.
