    Hello Forum,

I am a little undecided about wheels for my Tacoma. Truth is that I am not into aftermarket wheels even though there are a few that I like it is not enough for me to buy them. Here's what my '08 came with when I bought it on 01/03/12 (I added the tires afterwards):

My indecision stems from the fact that I like chrome but I like the following wheels also. I will list the pros & cons (from my point of view):

    PROS
    Has a nice shine.
    I already have them.
People think they are chrome wheels, until I tell them that they are wheel skins.
If I damage one, I can buy a whole set for $70. I can't buy wheels for $17.50 a piece.

I can balance the wheels with weights on both sides AND you can't even see the weights since they are hidden behind the wheel skins.

    CONS
I wish they would stick out an inch more. My wheels are 16x7 & have a 30mm offset & I believe 5" back space.

    PROS:
    These are 16x7.5 & have a 15mm offset.
I don't know what the back spacing is on them.

They look rugged & (I believe) these will stick out about an inch more than what I have now due to the 1/2 wider wheel & less offset. Again, I don't know the backspacing on these.

My truck is silver so I think these will match up perfectly.

I do not have to replace my 5 month old BFg A/T's, 265/75r16. I just spend themoney on the wheels. These go for around $600 on ebay

    CONS:
    no bling. LOL!

    PROS
Same with & offset as the TRD's but in 17's.
Not too common around here on Tacoma's
Some bling (machined face with silver & all clear coated) & I can buy chrome center caps for them.

    CONS
Requires new tires AND the cost of the rims. These go for around $500 - $600 on ebay.

I can wait to wear down my BFG's if I decide to go the 17" wheel route but these suckers go forever!

    Thanks :D

Do any of you know if the wheel will stick out a little more than my OE steel wheels do now?

1.5"'s more?! How's that? Not that I am complaining. I am not doubting you I simply am not good with the backspacing & offset stuff. 1" is great. 1.5"'s is even better.

    OE steel wheel:
    16x7 with 30mm offset (I believe) & 5" backspacing (I believe).

    TRD wheel:
    16x7.5 with 15mm offset & 4.75" backspacing (as read on TRDparts4U).

Is my OE steel wheel info correct? Can't find these since they are not popular, I guess.

If so, do those differences add up to the TRD wheel sticking out by 1.5"'s?

    If so, I'm sold!

    Thanks:D

If the OEM wheels are 30 mm offset (I thought they were 38mm) then they would be 5.25" bs on a 7" wide wheel. If they are 38 they will be 5.5 bs.

Everything I've read on the trd fjs, including people measuring on here, is that they are 4.5 bs, 7.5" wide. I've not seen any of the stamping on them though to confirm.

You could be right. Maybe they are 38mm. It seems that you know more about this than I do. Either way they will stick out by atleast 1 more inch, maybe 1.5 as you stated. Either way, I am happy with that.

KPT, the wheels look great in black with YOUR white truck but I am hoping that the silver wheels will match my silver truck. What tires are you running with yours? I have the BFG A/T's in 265/75. I heard that you can run 285's also but my tires are too new to get rid of now. However, if I can fit 285's in the future then thats just one more incentive. I have Wheelers 3 Leaf AAL and 5100's set at .85. Let me know. Thanks for all your help so far :)

Thanks for the kind words. I am running Nitto Terra Grapplers currently in 275/65/18 with 1.75 of lift.

You not be able to run those 285s without setting your 5100s to 2.5". However those FJ trd wheels are ideal for uca clearance when running 285s so you are covered there.

There are more pictures and specs on my truck, including back when I had silver wheels, in my build if you click on the picture in my sig.

Silver tacoma with the silver FJ's look pretty good. Picked mine up a while ago and I couldnt be happier.

Its a shitty iphone pick and I have a yard of mulch in the back, so its dragging a little.

Hey RI Tacoma, those wheels look awesome and I can see that they will match my truck nicely.

KPT, I saw your build. Sweet. Also, those Colorado pics, and the snow. VERY NICE! Don't see that here in Miami :)

    Thank you both!

Just saying, this could be a cheaper option...I had these on my old taco, and loved them. Getting them again.

Yeah AWorthyOpponent, I was looking at the chrome version of those recently. 16x8 with zero offset.

If I was to go with a black wheel, it would be the 17" steel FJ wheels with chrome trim rings & 275/70r17's

    Hello,

I ordered a set of 16x8 MOTO METAL chrome M0951's, 0 offset, & 4.5 back space. That should stick out noticeably more than wnat I have now. I should have them by Wednesday or Thursday of this week. I'll do my TPMS sensor mod to eliminate the light. I have 3 questions that I forgot to ask the vendor about & he is already closed for today.

    * Do I need hub-centric rings? I know our trucks have a 106mm hub but I don't know the hub bore on these wheels.

    * Will I have caliper rubbing issues? I have read where some 16" wheels rub the caliper but when ever I have read a post from someone with these wheels in 16" I did not read of any rubbing issues.

    * Anyone know the actual wheel part #?

I have searched but can't find this info.

    Thanks:D
