I have a 3in lift what is the biggest tire I can get on the stock wheels. The guy at discount tire said 265/75 is the biggest. I'm new to modifying my vehicle so forgive my ignorance.

 

You can run any size wheels you want.

It's the tires you have to give thought to picking.

Really though, maybe 285/70/17 or 285/75/16 for the stock 16" OR wheels before trimming/CMC is required with the 3" lift. I run 265/70/17 BFG's but I'm bone stock suspension wise.

 

Rubbing becomes an issue with the offset of the wheel you pick and how meaty your tires are.

I am running 4runner TRD wheels on 285/70/17 Geolander AT with a 3" front 1" rear and have no rub.

 

And they said 3rd Gen owners are ridiculous.

 

7.5 wheel width does not allow you to go that big than what is stock.

 

I think this is what the guy at discount tire was alluding to.

 

Hey guys, sorry for what might be a dumb question. Can you put 265 70/R17 tires on the 265 70/R16 stock rims? Thanks in advance.

Just for future reference.

The first number refers to width. The second height. The third is the wheel/rim size. So in your case you asked if tires meant for a 17" wheel fit on your 16" wheel. So if that last number isn't 16 they will never fit. I believe the biggest tires you can get on a stock 16" wheel are 265/75/16.
