Care to elaborate? Just because it's losing 500cc and MAYBE shares the same short block as the "girl motor" doesn't make it one.

Not sure that it's so primitive. Get a stick shift, drop two cylinders and ~80 hp, take away power locks, windows, and keyless entry, nix the back seat, get rid of any nav and climate control, get a single disc CD player radio with no aux inputs, take away all cup holders but two, drop any lockers and traction control nannies, remove progressive springs, take away cruise control and intermittent wipers, and you're left with the base reg cab 4x4. Now do 8 hr 400 mile trips on the highway at least 4-6 times a year. I dont take mine on long trips anymore (got a new Subie Outback for that), but when I did it was a little rough. Not horrible, just wouldnt want to do it often, especially now that Im getting older.

Admit it, you just don't want your user name to be irrelevant. That's the only possible explanation.

I don't agree at all with maxed out. Not near maxed until going over 1hp per 10 cc's. My 97 integra had 170 HP out of a 1.8L. True it was all HP and no tq but with both direct and port injection tuning possibilities are increased dramatically.

It absolutely makes girly one, Thats why Hilux got updated 4.0 "truck" motor, not some kind of Transgen minivan cross dressing ripoff.:D
If you make block for cars its not a truck engine. It does not use the same main bearings, not the same head gasket, not the same cooling capability, not the same oil capability etc etc etc. If it was that easy than Hilux would have it too. So is 4runner.

so the current 4.0 was maxed out? 236 hp on 241 CI? and i guess the 4runner 4.0 was even more maxed? i feel like thats kinda an old rule of thumb now. i mean in 06 there was a 3.5 in the camry and rav4 that put out over 300. the m3 had a strait 6 3.0 that put out over 300 also.

Seriously, this conversation has turned to what gender the motor is

So by your logic the 5.7 Hemi, 6.2 L Hemi, Ford Coyote, Ford Ecboost 3.5 L, and all of the LS series engines have been girl motors? Last I checked almost every motor on that list made the top ten wards list at some point. Sounds like we have some recent GED receivers in here gentlemen...

Oh, and @BlueT, I did some quick checking for fun. The 2.8 L Duramax LWNI4 motor found in the new Colorado is used internationally in the Dodge Grand Voyager (Caravan) and found it's first home in the CUV Grand Cherokee world model. Anyone say girly Diesel motor? :p

3.2L to be exact. And just when you thought the HP #s at near 8k were too high they come in with a V8 that revs even higher. lol. M3s are sweet and M3 fans know the 1st gen is still the top dog. Why are we on M3s again? I guess its a better direction than where the thread has turned anyway.

IMO, bottom line is we don't know what the torque curve and everything else looks like on that engine yet.

The GM engine is ridiculous. I agree there. It makes less torque (to the wheels) across the entire rev band than our 4.0, in real world testing gas mileage isn't significantly better, and ever reviewer admits it has to rev like crazy to have any usable power. The transmission is programmed to shift high for that reason.

Toyota may do better, though. Redline is already lower than the GM 3.6 based on the photos they've released.
