    Not so fast, Grasshoppa.

Being a 'short Asian man' also means having a short Asian... well, you know.

    Bottom line; Buy a tent.

Fishing rods are a the biggest problem... I also have an issue with ladders and such. Other then that though I dont really need a bed that much to need a bigger one. Id rather have the 4 door short bed then a 2 door long bed or some giant land yaught.

If I needed that much more of a bed I would have bought a full size.

It would have to be some really long timber (heh) to make a difference at all. Changing the bed length by 13" when the bed is only 18" high means a difference of less than 3* for anything propped up on the rear tailgate.

Basically, unless it was 20 ft long, it wouldn't have made a significant difference in overall load height (~11") and anyone carrying 20' cargo propped up in the back of a 5' bed needs to have their head examined anyways.

If i'm reading that right, that would make the driver an imbecile, or at best, one easily distracted?

Now, i understand the 5' bed poses some disadvantages over the 6', having had both, but anyone i know would have the common sense to unload in the driveway.

I would file that one under 'You can't fix stupid'.

If you're talking about the double cab short bed having increased maneuverability over the access cab long bed, you're wrong, as they both have the exact same length and wheelbase.

my short bed experiences have been mixed. there have been a few time where i had to rent the lowes truck because my bed is too short. my tailgate is bowed because of my bike. but goin to dc or nap town is much easier in a shorter truck. overall im still satisfied with my short bed. if i get real tired of it ill get a bigger truck

I have the long bed with the bed extender and I find my self short a lot of times. Any thing you buy for building materials comes standard at 8 foot. I am talking 4x4 and even plywood. Well plywood just does not fit in the back cause of the small space between the wheel base, its not 4 foot wide. My next truck is defenetly going to have to be an 8 foot bed. Not talking construction materials if I did not have a 6 foot bed my skis, snowboard, surfboard would not fit in a 5 foot bed. So go with the 6 foot bed people cause you will never know what stuff you are going to put in there.

I debated the long vs short at length as well. I been able to do 95% of what I needed to over the last 4 years and 55K miles with the DCSB. The other 5%? I'll figure it out. There's just too many benefits for me in having the SB....nimble, handy, manueverable, fits in the garage, looks, utility, etc. I built a bed extender out of plywood two years ago and have never had to use it, although, I'll admit, I'm looking for an excuse to. LOL! I'm a dediated elk hunter, mountain biker, shooter, camper, tinkerer, homeowner, part-time rancher and generally dedicated outdoorsman who uses his truck. As someone else mentioned previously, if I needed more truck, I'd have bought a 3/4 ton Ram or F-250.

It's not really a question of long or short bed. It's more like short or even shorter bed.

Longer wheel base puts a lot more stress on the frame when wheeling. And it sucks when trying to park in a tight spot

I can understand the offroading downside to the longbox , but if you can't park a truck with a 6' bed , that's driver error , not an issue with the rig .

This is a big reason why I first bought an access cab. I traded it in the for short double cab, and never looked back.

I carried sheet rock, sheets of plywood, I just use my cargo net to secure stuff. The extra room in the cab is worth WAY more then the foot in the bed in my opinion, and I've been on both sides.

I do alot of work around my house. There are times when I have to take an extra trip to the dump, but like I said previous, the extra cab room comes in handy!

Per my trig calculations, an 8 foot piece of lumber would rest 4.5" higher on a short bed tailgate. He might have stacked multiple pieces of lumber vertically too.

Apparently he was backing into his garage. Maybe he was too busy checking side clearances? Who knows.
