I've never been disappointed with my shortbed and bed extender, and I used to have a fullsize 8' bed... I've camped in the bed with the tailgate down...

I wheel on a weekly basis, and I sometimes hang my shortbed, so the long bed would not take me all the places my shortbed has... And, I use the locker and A-Trac all the time... Can't get a TRD Offroad in the DC LB...

I wish I had a long bed. I was trying to take an 8 foot ladder home from Home Depot, but I only had a 5' bed (well, 6' with the tailgate down). It was too much for the truck, especially since I never knew you could use rope to tie things down. Well, to make a long story short, I loaded the ladder in the bed and BOOM !! ...the truck just damn blew up !

Lesson learned, this never would have happened if I had a long box.

Same here, If I have to haul something with weird dimensions or I can't hang off the roof rack, that what my utility trailer is for. A DC LB is almost as long as a Supercrew F150. I opted for the smaller truck since most of my work is done in urban areas where parking is either nonexistant or small.

The main limit to one's ability to haul in/on a shortbed is the ability to tie stuff down........if you do not mind looking like "Sanford and Son"-just about anything can be tied on. We Americans are too limited by the rules of the road and our own imaginations.....see proof below....

Why? The composite is just as, if not stronger than that flimsy thin metal there...

Anyway, I had the 6', it was handy.... however honestly the only advantage for me was not having to have the tailgate down for most stuff. Longest thing I've really had to haul was a queen bed... it'd fit just fine hanging over the back a bit with some proper tie downs.

Worst case senario, you can rent a u-haul trailer for $20 a day. For the once every 6 months or whatever you may need to do that.... personally it's worth it to me for parking ability, wheeling ability, back seat, and locker/a-trac. To those that say they can park the DC LB easily... well apparently you don't park in half of AZ's parking lots where at least once a week I can't even park my short bed into a spot because it's to wide and too long. Yes you can get it in most places but... no one can argue it's a lot easier with a shorter wheel base. Plus flipp'n a bitch is hella easier too.

well i have seen the difference almost every weekend at work. i work at a plant nursery.

there is these two guys that both have 4 door tacos but one short bed and the other long bed.

now i usually help them out with loading their plants into the trucks.

and dont doubt my packing abilities i can fit more ish into a 1st gen mini that alot of people couldnt haha.

anyway this happens all the time the guy with the short bed gets effed over all the time. he always have to come back, or try and stuff plants into his truck when its pretty much full inside. and the guy with the long bed even though its only a 1'' longer it seriously makes a difference.

and both or these guys dont have workers or any other work trucks that are independent contractors.

so i can only see there bing a difference where some one wishing they had the long bed is a daily work truck environment.

My SB has worked out perfect for me. My truck fits in my garage which is #1 priority for me. I have a small 5x9 foot trailer for the rare occassion I need to haul sheetrock and other longer lumber. 95% of the time the bed is empty.

True Dat, and the SB looks much better on a DC IMO.

If the short bed was avail with the automatic i would have gotten it for sure! For the occasional times that you need the extra depth its a small pain in the butt. On the other hand, with a hard tonneau cover the size of my "trunk" is maximized and its locked, unlike a short bed with the gate down extender down. And on long trips its weather proof.

    I love my LB..

I believe that the LB looks more like a truck, and the SB looks more like a SUV/Truck hybrid like the ford sport-trac.. When I first purchased the truck I felt it looked to long, but I now realize that was because I was comparing it to all the short beds I had seen driving around.. Now after owning the truck for a while, the SB's look to short and I love the size of the LB..

To be fair I have seen SB's that look better than LB's and Visa-versa.
Also the DC OR SB dominates the Sport DC LB in offroad ability, although mine has more ability than I will ever need.

The whole SB vs LB question, is a silly question to ask guys and girls that already own one or the other. We will normally defend our truck in the end, lol.

I think I would be happy with either.. But SB Sport now thats just crazy:confused: lol.
