Haha, I don't need to try and find an ice patch, I just need to step out my door from October to April. I'm not talking out of my ass, I drive on icy/snowy roads over 6 months of the year.

I'm not certain on push button 4x4 but a U shifter you can go from 4L to 4H on the fly. clutch shift T case find a gear that is going to match fairly well and clutch out... with N where it is on the t case it is technically possible to clutchless. 4H to 2WD is like clutchless shifting. 2WD to 4H is possible to clutchless as well. 4H to 4L is a stationary operation.

As for 4x4 and when to use it I would say anything offroad if required and avoid using it on pavement but in all reality it's not going to hurt anything if your gentle on it and keep your speeds down.

You cannot go from 4L to 4H or vice versa on the fly under any conditions, that's what I said in my post. You have to be at a stop

have you ever tried it?? I know of some people with pickups witch is pretty much the same T case use 4L as an extra 3-4 gears while towing way more than the truck is designed for. I shift out of 4L on the fly almost every time I use it. Buttery smooth. no grinding no parts blasting out of the t case.

I am talking about a U shift case. this is not a push button

Last sentence of his first paragraph states that the shift between 4H and 4L is a stationary procedure. But an earlier sentence in same paragraph can be understood to imply differently.
