Is 7:45am on a Sunday too early to start up my mower? Is there an unwritten rule about mowing time? Do my neighbors hate me? What do you guys think?

If they are sleeping in, they shouldn't hear a mower running.

Your city should have some type of noise ordinance. I usually start at 8 am. If I start sooner, I usually pull weeds or rake crap that doesn’t create lots of noise.

I have a reel mower so I can get started early.

I wouldn't fire up a gas mower (or even electric) before 9am.

My rule, as taught to me by my elder neighbor. No loud shit before 9:00am, especially on Sunday. There are exceptions for construction type stuff.

Most of my neighbors mow in the evening so no issues. I can only grow dirt so no noise from me.

When I was working 12 hour shifts for 2 years I was also on a split shift. I told my neighbors I will be mowing at the first light of dawn. Most were OK with it but I did have one neighbor write into a local newspapers "Sound Off" about the idiot mowing grass at 6 in the morning. I knew who they were talking about. He did it again when I fired up my snow blower during the winter months. My weekends were taken up with everything else that I had to do. I did what I had to when I could.

Good for you for thinking of this

I’d suggest taking some time to ask your neighbors. Maybe get to know them a bit.

But an earliest time of 9:00 am sounds reasonable assuming the grass isn’t soaked w dew..

Right that’s where I’m at.. I got a 8 month old so I’m up at like 5am, then I gotta go to work in the afternoon… so why not mow when it’s good for me right… if they complain maybe I’ll figure something else out.

I don't make it a habit to mow on a sunday morning only till noon time. Rest of the week i won't start the mower till 8 am.
I know when i worked a 2nd shift till 2 am, it'd really piss me off when my next door neighbor fired up their mower at 7:30 am just several feet from under my bedroom window.

We live in a 24 hour world now. Its not like it was when people worked normal hours and there were unwritten rules when you could do this or that. That all ended in the 90s. Honestly I miss those days.

If either of these conditions occur:

    a) the forcast high is 100 degrees
    b) its about to rain in an hour and then continue raining for the rest of the weekend

Then yes, mow early due to weather.

Otherwise, be nice to your neighbors and wait for the dew to burn off your grass. After 9 am is best.

I think 8am is acceptable...7:45 should be close enough

Although the best times to mow are when the yard has dried out for a couple hours in the morning so I usually mow after 9am and you don't want to mow during the heat of the day because it's more stressful on the grass.

I wonder if I can just buy a bag of crabgrass seed. Its green and it seems to be the only thing that grows in my yard.

Unless its rained all week and I have no other choice. I try and avoid mowing on Sunday. Out of respect for the day and my neighbors.
