When should I get a production date and delivery date after my order is placed?
My order was placed about 2 weeks ago for a Tacoma Off Road.
Should I be given a start build date? Will I also get a VIN number at some point?

Your probably not going to be given anything. You will probably have to beg and pester and pull your salesman teeth to get any information. For the most part they are too lazy, too busy or don't care since your a done deal to look up the daily reports and production information available to them. Takes a special salesman to be proactive and keep the customer informed. I would pester my salesman pretty much every other Thursday so on Friday morning he could dig up information and get back to me before the weekend sales rush.
My salesman was pretty good in the fact that when I E-mailed him he always responded the same day even on his day off and would actually follow up on his promises.

It took me 5 weeks to get conformation that Toyota will accept the order. 3 More weeks to get a temporary Vin # so I could extract what week the truck was scheduled to be built. Truck was built on time and shipped to my dealer in 2 weeks after build from Texas to So California.

Color, model, accessories all effect the build schedule. In my case the issue that I ordered Offroad 4x4, Quicksand, access cab, and long bed means it could only be made in the Texas plant. They have to reset the production line and schedule on time part delivery They run zebras as a group, cows as a group, horses as a group and the ultra rare unicorns that they seem to have a hard time rounding up the parts for as a group. Then they squeeze in these limited production animals. Meanwhile in the 2 production plants they are always running 4 door, 2wd, short bed, in white, silver, black as their meat and potato trucks. They throw in all the other colors too.

called and texted the salesman on Monday.
Tuesday evening I get a call back and he claims they can not get a start date or vin number until it arrives at the dealership.
I inform him that is not true and he should be able to get me a confirmation of acceptance by Toyota, a start date and a vin #.
The salesman acts dumbfounded and says he will check with the sales manager and get back with me.

    What are these salesmen thinking?
This the same salesman when I requested sil protectors on the new truck said he had never heard of them before.

Should I give him to the end of the week and if he drops the ball then talk to management and request to speak with management only about my car the rest of the time I 'm waiting on the truck to arrive?

I was pretty much told the same thing, it's a "waiting game" and I don't get any clear answers. With the "news" that there is a new Tacoma coming for this year, all the dealers might be holding off on trying to fill these orders (huge speculation on my part). That being said, I'm calling my dealer in the morning and I'm going to ask them about the new models coming and I'll probably just wait for that. I'm already going to wait at least 2-3 months before I see a new truck, what's a few more months to hit Sept/Oct when the new/updated models will most likely hit the lots?

Go to a different dealer! I played around for a month with the same bull from dealer #1. Went to another dealer which has kept me updated every other week with vin and build date. I received my complete refund from the first dealer who gave me a bunch of nonsense on why no vin or build date. A good dealer will keep you updated on the status...

I asked 3 times in 30 days if my build was accepted by Toyota. They told me no word had been received. I told them to cancel the order and I bought a truck off the lot from another dealer.

I placed an order and was given an ETA of 8 weeks. Instead of risking finding out nothing has been done after waiting 8 weeks, I politely ask the salesman for an update. Well after hounding them yesterday, they said they put my request into "BAS" system and waiting or it to cycle. I am told that is the system they use to request minor changes to their allocation. Supposedly it going to take some more time. Fine with me, I need to save a little more dough for a down payment. Get monthly payments under $500/mo

Bump. Anybody know how long this BAS system takes to cycle? I want to keep bugging them if I can

    need advice:
Went to dealership . I placed the order exactly 3 weeks ago.
sales manager states that the order is in the dealers system, but has not been sent to Toyota yet.
Dealer claims 15 cars in front of me but I might get my truck early or could be 12 weeks.
He still claims an 8-12 time frame and will call me when started.

Is this normal? Should I wait at least another month?

Not sure if it's normal, but I'm in a similar situation with my dealer. I call every week, and they tell me they keep checking their allotment/list and still nothing, no build date, etc. I suspect it's a smaller dealer I'm working with, so they are not getting the allotments. I can't remember where I read it, but I thought the dealers are assigned a number based on the vehicles they sell. So if they don't move a lot of vehicles, they are bumped down on the priority list for getting those vehicles. (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I placed my order for black DCSB 4x4, manual transmission, tech package (no JBL) and tow on Nov. 7. They told me it would likely be 12 weeks, at least. About a week after ordering, the salesman said the plant had accepted the order. It's been 12 weeks. Still haven't received word on a VIN or build date. I will try again today to see if there are any updates. At one point, the salesman said the plant seemed to be taking longer than normal; I heard something about a parts 'shortage.' But who knows .. .

I have heard on the other forum that the manuals fake longer because they run a whole batch at once instead of making them on the same line with the automatic transmission trucks to save on tooling costs...who knows though maybe someone on here should look in LinkedIn and find the supply chain or sales operations person and ask them a direct question through a LinkedIn mesaage... Random thought

Well, just got an email from my salesman. He says 7 days. For those of you financing, what's the best rate you've been offered through Toyota financing? My credit union is offering 1.99 percent, with additional reductions if I get GAP insurance.

So if i'm already in 3 weeks waiting with this dealership , should I go ahead wait it out a few more weeks or just order with a larger dealer?
Seems like the larger dealers are quoting 8-12 weeks also around here (same as this smaller dealer)

I don't understand , when I placed my order, why was it not sent directly to Toyota that next day?

should you stay away from a smaller dealership since they get a smaller allotment?

Just got a call this morning from dealer that some one had cancelled their order for an Off Road, the exact set up I ordered and will be in 1 week from today. I guess I will not have to wait the 3 - 4 months for my Off Road after all.
