I'm getting forgetful in my older age, so I have to do things to make sure this doesn't happen. When I do oil changes, i pull the dipstick to check the pre-change oil level, clean it off, then stick the end under the battery wire so the yellow end hangs out of the engine bay. I can see it from the cab, and outside the vehicle. Once I've done the change, (my 04 and now my 24 take 6 quarts) I put 5 quarts in, which shows full on the dipstick, then put the dipstick back in the engine, start it up- wait for the engine oil light to go off (it takes a few seconds to refill the oil filter, the 24 is almost immediate) Then turn off and go back out and add the last quart, since it will show at the bottom of the fill range again. More than once, the wife or something else has distracted me during the oil change process, and having the dipstick sticking out- is always a reminder where I am in the process.

Mistakes happen. That's why pencils have erasers. I bet you will be okay because of the residual oil left in the engine. Let us know how you make out.
