As of this moment, I don't know how long I could last a Zombie outbreak. But I do know I have some supplies that will help me obtain other supplies.

I would rather it not come down to living vs. living, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do to survive. :/

I currently have 3 weapons (plus 1 more that belongs to the lady) and about 500 rounds (I know. I need more. :( ) Shotguns are probably key though. Cept the reload factor. My revolver is nice and accurate up to a little distance, but it only has 6 shots before reload. XD .40 holds 12 and is a relative easy reload if you have another mag ready. And then I have an old school Mosin Nagant M44. Very cheap bullets. Pretty good in the power department. Lacks on awesome accuracy, but 300 is no problem for mine. Would be good if I was up and away from Zombies and could pick them off at a distance.

Another thing would be to gather up some friends and supplies. I would suggest an old jailhouse for a "base". I would think you could (given the cell is big enough) keep quite a stash of supplies and people in one. And it only has one entrance, so I figure it could be a good place. Cept when lots and lots of Zombies start coming to you, it might get crowded with all the dead bodies laying around. :/ It would be nice to have some type of roof access inside the cell. I think that would help a little bit as well with the space issue (assuming Zombies can't climb up the side of the wall, which they shouldn't be able to do).

I think this is a good start. :)

If it REALLY hits the fan, I have keys to four other houses on my block. Sorry folks, you guys have been great neighbors and all but...
Many people will want to take others in or help them out of kindness but in a real SHTF situation that will wind up being their downfall.

Quickly ransacking 4 houses plus mine would give me a good amount of food, ammo and general supplies to hold out at least a month without ever having to leave my street. Drain all the gas from their vehicles into a storage tank in my bed and GTFO toward the hills. All the houses in my neighborhood are stick-built with vinyl siding... I could break into them with a steak knife, if I had enough patience. Not nearly defensible enough... I want to be as far away from population centers as possible. Being in a city of town you're going to attract attention no matter how careful and I want to avoid it if at all possible.

I already have assloads of water purification supplies, propane stoves, first aid kits, etc. Toss in 2 cases of MREs (just the thing for serious cases of SHTF). Bring my bow and what arrows I have available... I won't use them immediately but some day bullets will run out (I can make more arrows) and I'll need something to hunt with.

At that point I'd probably wished I'd bought my truck in a different color... SWB is real eye-catching. Oh well... camo netting once I reach one of a few caves I've been to before should help until I can cover it from front to back in mud.

From there my wife and I would be cave people for at least a month... killing or driving away anyone who came up during that time. After that everything is situational so can't say for sure what the next move would be. We'd have enough food to eat for several weeks without needing to cook it since fires attract too much attention and enough of a water supply to get along.

So if the SHTF and you're approaching a cave in western NC with a muddy SWB Tacoma nearby, holler your screen name... it might just save your life.

^ Just saying the religious beef on here got squashed about 4 months ago. Pay attention to dates and the thread. It's mainly about zombies. In the off-topic section feel free to impose your religious views in your own thread please. Otherwise, enjoy the thread for what it is; good times, zombies, and some good info

Ill toss a smoke bomb in that cave and flush him out where I will have a zombie strapped to the back of a siberian Tiger waiting to pounce on him. then I will go in and snag all his supplies.

terrible idea... what happens when you're surrounded now you're locked in a damn bank vault.

You need a place with multiple exit points that only a living human could figure out.

Initially,

I would lay low and hold up at home. Fortify the house and stay hidden... living humans would be more dangerous than zombies. Afterwards I'd take off to the mountains or a local island off the coast.

Large Federal Prison

Frequency: In America? Are you kidding me? There's a prison in every school district.

Inherent Survivor Hazards: Left over prisoners. I suggest that during the initial zombie-clearing sweep of the prison, any surviving prisoners be "mistaken" for zombies. Wink wink. And by "wink wink" I mean kill them all. Except for the pedophiles. They are simply misunderstood and mightily yearn for their rightful place in the emerging society of a post-apocalyptic world.

Inherent Zombie Hazards: Prisons are always filled with shotguns and riot gear. Riot gear is not only a wonderful sexual fantasy aid, but is extremely useful in guarding against bites and scratches. Shotguns are, of course, covered in the weapon reviews section.

Fences, spotlights (assuming you’ve got the generators going), and watchtowers are also excellent zombie defense tools. The high fences will keep the zombies out, but you must make sure to maintain them and fully understand the zombie-restraining tolerances of each section of fencing. Any fence will topple to a big enough horde of pressing shamblors. The watchtowers will be essential to prevent munched medulla oblongatae. Zombies are not known for their clever military strategies or stealthy ninja-like abilities. Put a couple of people in a watchtower and they will be able to spot approaching zombies very quickly during the daytime. At night it is advisable to rig up some noise/proximity alarms to alert the lookouts, who should then use the spotlights to illuminate the encroaching undead for easy shooting. Pots on strings is an example of a basic setup. For the more experienced survivor, an intelligent alarm comprised of forcibly immobilized and highly expendable bait will work wonders (old people and/or orphans capable of high volume are ideal). Admittedly that particular set-up will become less viable and produce more false alarms as the more natural North American predators (e.g. cougars, wooly mammoths, wolves, lumberjack sloths, coyotes, Jehovah’s Witnesses, etc.) begin to creep back into an ecosystem unimpeded by humanity. Oh yeah, one more thing. For godssakes make sure the lookouts are sexually incompatible. Nothing will bring about the infestation of your prison haven faster than arbitrary scrogging in the watchtowers.

If you're really lucky, the prison may come with one or more crazy serial killers. The irony can be quite satisfying when a cannibalistic loon is eating a befuddled zombie. Normally I’m not one to encourage hotdogging of any form, but if one has access to enough insane psychotics it may be possible to singlehandedly revive the great lost tradition of the traveling vaudeville show employing only captured zombies and homicidal nutjobs. Surely such a thing would revitalize a crushed nation’s spirit. I’m sorry, but what did you just say? Don't call you what? No goddammit, you listen to me, Shirley. Shut the fuck up and listen when I'm fucking talking. Christ!!

General Tactics: Assuming the clearing stage is successful, there's every reason to believe a self-sustaining society could be born here and flourish. There will be plenty of food initially since prisons all have deeply stocked pantries. There will be plenty of land for farming since prisons are almost always located in rural areas. The high walls and fences, if properly maintained, will be excellent for keeping zombies out. There will be generators to ease the eventual transition from an electrical wall socket based society to a fossil fuel based one. With some basic modifications the many cells can be made into fine little apartments with room and privacy enough for even the most finicky.

Safety Rating: 9 out of 10. This really is a fine choice for survivors. The irony here is also appealing to this reviewer. A place so many of the zd.o founding members have struggled so long and hard to avoid becomes a most desirable haven. Oh God, you devil.*

^repost but fucking awesome! I cant wait to watch that.

Im not sure how maplors will respond to the texas heat but at least we have plenty of guns down south. I imagine the Z virus would spread very quickly in cananada with their lack of weapons, cops, and military

you would love The Walking Dead comic series and the new TV show coming out... they eventually take refuge in a Supermax prison

the guards deserted it and released the prisoners before they go there
