Just curious, after lifting the truck it seems the brake likes are a little shorter. when did you extend your brake lines?

most people will say that you need to extend them after getting a lift.

Its a matter of extended shock length in the rear as that is the ultimate limiter on how far the axle droops from the frame (in most cases).

I run OME N182 shocks, which i have found to be the longest travel shocks that will fit in the stock location and have a collapsed length of right around 14in. My brakelines are fine but much beyond that 24in extended length of the N182, id need longer brake lines.

FYI your typical 5100 that people use in the rear of our trucks is 23in extended

Maybe the op wants to know how much lift before extending brake lines is necessary? The extended length of my icons is minimally longer than the stock shocks and I've flexed my truck out without any problems on stock lines. I've been curious about this as well!

Unless you're running LT or have had to cut off the stock shock mount to weld in aN extended one to make your shocks fit, you'll be fine with stock brake lines on your 3" lift

Again its not necessarily lift amount that will determine the need for extended brake lines. Its how much droop you have which is 99% of the time limited by your shocks.

I could setup my truck to have less lift than i have right now, but have 12inch stroked kings on bamf relocation brackets that would allow me to droop way further than my current setup, thus necessitating longer lines.

This is why I mentioned extended length of the shocks. With your average setup, our shocks are limit straps and the key factor in determining whether or not extended lines are necessary.

I've got the 5100's but will be going to an ext length soon. I want more droop. more travel.

@OCTaco runs a pretty good deal. Steel braided lines are a good upgrade in general. When buying them, you might as well get extended lines at no extra cost for when you upgrade your suspension to more travel. 3 inches is a good bet.

This is at full droop with OME kit, is it time for the extension? They don't look like they are bearing any load but the bend in the left line makes me a bit nervous. I read @bjmoose's thread on the subject and he said that with the OME kit the brake line extensions aren't worth the work it takes to install. Also noticed upon downloading the image that I may want to add some length to my rear diff breather hose, add it to the list...

When I had the defined sua I put a 1.5" spacers under the brake line bracket and never needed new lines...that kits pulls 14" too

You'll get more droop than that on one side if the other side is at full stuff. With Dakars and B110s my 3" extended lines make me nervous. I have some 29" lines in the box that I need to get around to installing. That'll be enough for when I get around to doing a shackle flip.

Most people don't need extended lines, but brake lines should have plenty of room for dynamic droop - which you won't replicate in the garage.

Love it! The bump stops should be extended (for now I have air bags, but will eventually probably put in Timbrens) so you don't bottom out the shocks. I have the full Dakar pack with AAL, so i'm not in too much danger of over compressing the shocks.
