Thats a lot of coolant to be losing, you'd definitely see some kind of coolant drip/leak. Earlier model year Tacomas had issues with head gaskets, quick block check can determine if you need a head gasket, or just after replacing your water pump, and refilling the coolant, check to see if you see exhaust bubbles coming out of the radiator filler neck.

Yes. I am going to start with water pump then check for leaks. I was thinking of replacing radiator, but two pros said it was good shape as well as fluid was flushed regularly. If it does need a gasket, I would like to replace the hose under the intake at the same time. If I order parts tomorrow, they will not be in till Monday

What hose underneath the intake manifold, does it run coolant through it? usually, if I suspect a coolant leakage or overheating issues, I'd look at the water pump, belt, radiator, radiator hoses, and thermostat as the minor repairs, and head gasket to full rebuild as the major.

Not sure about the hose but the mechanic at the dealership told me there was one known to leak.

Honestly I've never head of a coolant hose leaking underneath the intake manifold, I know there is a steel coolant tube that runs between the intake gally and feeds coolant to the heads. There is an o ring on that steel tube that is replaced along with the waterpump (included in the waterpump kit). The smaller coolant lines that feed the throttle body are the only hoses that I know that run next to the intake manifold, but those never really leak unless the technician forgets to put the clamps back in the proper place.

You sure he wasn't referring to the coolant/water bypass on the 2.7 (which are known to leak)?

New water pump is in. One stud was giving me grief. but I eventually got it. I ran out of daylight and will have to install alternator and belt in the morning.

I did water pump, pullies, thermostat and radiator hoses at 198k preventative, and forgot about fan clutch unfortunately but i guess we will see how next 100k goes.

Heater is back and working but after a 20-minute test drive still having the same issue of reservoir overflowing and bubbling. Just not as much. I went to dealership and made an appointment for a diagnosis. I will not be able to get in until the 13th. I would like to do leak test myself, but no one has the kits.

Kind of sounding like you have a blown head gasket or have a crack in the cylinder head. The crack usually occurs if you drive the vehicle with a blown head gasket and overheat the engine.
