Surprised you actually got it. Probably only because other customers across the USA wanted the same thing thing so they finally made a batch.

Post a pic of your truck. How do you like the wheels?

Wrong, I sat down with the fleet guy and ordered mine. The build had to be approved by Gulf States Toyota first and then it was a long wait. They don't build/sell the truck I wanted in the GST region......or very very few of them anyway.

Edit: I may have misread what you were trying to say. You can't "order" Limited parts or packages on an SR5 or anything like that. You can "order" certain packages within the model you're looking for, which is what I did because they don't offer the combination I wanted in my area.

It still came from the same process that all the other Toyota trucks go through. It was not built to order. It was already going to be built, your fleet manager just claimed it for you and had to talk to some people in GST to get it down to you.. because they don't normally get that particular configuration I guess.

He actually said exactly that! Then he told me he may not even be able to get them to build it the way I wanted it. He chuckled when he entered all the information in the computer and sent it off. "We'll see how this goes".

When I was in California for two weeks in June that same package was all over the damn place!! It was explained to me that they build a certain truck/package for so long, say two weeks, then switch to another build. I had to wait until that particular build was "up" for its build run which is why it took so long.

This kind of proves it. If you could build to order why would he be skeptical that they would build it like you want? The reason is because they aren't built to order. He was requesting the option changes you wanted to a pre-existing allocation. Sometimes they are denied but normally they are accepted.

Why are people still arguing this?

RETAIL you can NOT build to order/factory order your vehicle. Dealer locates one that has been built, is being built, or is in order processing with your specs. The vehicle is then tagged by the dealer then rerouted to the dealer. Usually its a vehicle going to another state. The vehicle that is tagged is then replaced by another dealer stock unit.
FLEET you CAN build to order/factory order your vehicle. They do not locate the vehicle for you, its a fresh order placed with the factory that can not be touched by other dealers.

You may think on your retail deal you factory ordered the vehicle but the vehicle was not built for you. Like others said, the vehicle was being built even if you werent there. It was going to some dealers inventory.

    Make sense?

I work in the industry btw.

and to clarify, first 2018 orders are submitted 8/1/2017 with first deliveries projected 12/1/2017

Would love to know 2018 colors now. Don't care about the safety sense features.

I'm needing that info. If there's no cement for 2018, I'd like to grab a 2017 at the months end.

That's be cool, but prolly not. Many of the 'new' colors of recent years originally were FJ Cruiser colors. A variation of quicksand, cement, and Calvary blue (2018 4Runner Pro color) were all FJ colors.

A fleet order requires a fleet identification number (FIN) With that number you place the order and get fleet specific incentives and the vehicle MUST be registered to the name on the FIN. Only companies can get a FIN. You must apply through Toyota fleet and have to list how many vehicles are in you're fleet. Not all companies are approved for a FIN.

Since you are an individual and not a company, yours was not built to order. Just because the fleet manager handled it doesn't mean it was a fleet order.
