Sales tactics. They tell you what you want to hear and work from there once you’re committed. I’ve sold before, that’s how they work. When I was a salesman I had your best interest in mind but I was at the mercy of management just as much as the customer

 

I remember from the old days of vehicles getting redirected to another dealer .

The original dealer is only a small volume dealer another large volume dealer wants the vehicle going to be sometime till you get your vehicle.

Then the ever popular totaled in transit most likely harder to cover up these days with so many cameras .

With this current covid deal its a crap shoot when your dealer will get your truck if ordered. I wouldn't expect anything like before.

 

Watched a video the other day on You Tube of a train pulling about 20-30 car carriers go into emergency stop. About half the car carrier's front doors were bashed open from the vehicles breaking loose inside. I imagine a lot of buyers waiting on delivery got a sad phone call from their dealer.

So just got back from seeing my salesman. I audio recorded everything just in case. I started out by saying i just wanted the truth and that it wouldn’t bother me to walk away and lose my deposit. He left for a few minutes that returned. He gave me the Dealer Daily screen print showing my truck (like you posted above). Shows the truck was 4 days late getting to port and shows Dealer ETA Date if 9/18. I told him I had ordered about $400 of accessories and that I had to return them by the 20th so if I didn’t have my Truck in hand by the 19th I would probably walk away. I actually feel better getting the screenshot with VIN. Even shows their invoice amount. We shall see. Ha!

Did you by chance take a look at Carvana. All 3 major dealers around me couldn't even come close to matching the price and I live in TN with a high tax rate.

 

I really didn't, just Googled new Voodoo Blue MT's. Be interesting how long it takes for yours to arrive.

 

You're under no obligation to buy, so don't think you need to forfeit your deposit. I had one on "order" too, got tired of waiting and bought on a lot elsewhere. Got deposit back from original dealer.

 

I agree with this, I wouldn't trust any dealer wanting to get a non-refundable deposit on a TACOMA. Do you think they won't be able to sell it?

 

I signed a non-refundable deposit agreement. Only way they will do business with you.

 

This is what my dealer sent me today. Hopefully will have it in my driveway Dec 1. I ordered (allocated, build, whatever it is called) a 2021 TRD Off-Road, MT, Voodoo Blue with Premium/Advanced Tech package.

 

Congratulations!!! When it is produced you will not be able to look up this re-VIN on the Toyota look-up site. You'll know your truck has been built then and the dealer will get an update with the real VIN and projected shipping/arrival dates.

 

He is going to keep me informed on the progress. Trading in my 2019 TRD Sport MT.

 

I was able to look up this "pre-VIN" a few days ago (I think last I was able to query it was Sunday?). Today, when I try to look up that same VIN, the site returns an error: "Please enter a valid Toyota VIN". Interesting thing is, and what I'm wondering, is the production date for the vehicle in the allocation was like, 9/24 or 9/27. Is it typical for vehicles to be built before their scheduled production date?

Mine was. If the Pre-Vin is no longer valid a VIN has been applied and the truck is either in build or completed. Your dealership will be able to give you the actual VIN soon.
