None of the dealers that I've checked in my area are marking up new Tacos. All going for MSRP or even slightly under. That said, they only have used inventory (some priced the same as a 2021) on their lots so all orders are either custom or you throw down a deposit on incoming inventory that mostly meets your requirements.

Obviously someone has read The Age of Turbulence. Alan Greenspan was a great Fed chairman until he ignored all the warning signs and led us right down the road smack into the middle of the mortgage crisis of 2008. My Alan Greenspan quote for today from a speech after he retired from his tenure as Fed chair, to go with your last one for today: “All the things I though were right over the last 40 years were wrong.”

One can never have too many light bars.
All the tech/ automotive news says they project the chip shortage to last until mid 2023 which is when new factories and assembly lines currently being built are projected to go on line. That will probably mean the crazy auto market will return to normal trends in late 2023/ early 2024.

Yep. Inflation hits everybody, and you cannot print more money in a year than in the preceding 30 years and not expect hyper-inflation. 23.6% of USD in existence were created in 2020.

Every business has Now Hiring signs out here in SoCal but none of them had Now Firing when the laid off tons of folks last year. Large corporations laid off tons of folks last year even though they didn’t have to and now they complain they can’t hire them back at a moment’s notice. As a manager it was hard, sad and upsetting having to let people go because it was mandated by our corporation even though we had tons of work, and were having tons of sales. We were overwhelmed last year and this year it’s worst. I don’t blame folks for collecting unemployment while they can. I put the blame on companies unnecessarily laying off people to just have better looking numbers on the books and causing the government to step in and feed folks.

I don’t work in the auto industry. I am in aerospace manufacturing.

I just bought a CPO '19, and asked my salesman when he thought things would get back to normal - they've been told around the end of the year. New Tacos near me are seeing markups of $2.5k -$10k over MSRP - it's wild seeing one for $60k, even if it's a TRD Pro.

I would blame the states governments that ordered shutdowns that put people out of business and made companies lay folks off. But that's not a discussion for this board, apparently.

But production #'s for Q2 for the tacoma in 2021 was a record high for tacoma. Seems like people in Mexico and texas are working.

Mexico probably isnt paying people to sit home and I think Texas ended all covid benefits. :notsure:

I think most production is just for filling backorders right now.

Not that I know of. The 4th gen will probably cost more than the out going Tundra. I, would expect the normal mark up on MSRP + a premium new model mark up on top of that.

Pretty sure this will be the new norm on prices. Things get more expensive and with inflation, it’ll keep where it’s at now or get more expensive. The days where you can get a TRD for under 35k are finished. Those are SR prices now. Hell I paid that for my new SR DCSB last month…..v6 4x4. But I did get great trade in value…..probably would have Been in the same boat a year ago since I probably would have not got as much for my trade and maybe a few more grand off on my SR. But for those folks with no trade in, that stinks! I got the tax cut plus the great value. I laugh at those that are getting rid of their trucks for the high prices now in hopes of the market to go back down…..good luck.

Oh this should work well. Less than an hour's labor as compensation for each unit. Yup, they will put the kid who just got promoted from delivery prep on these. At least Ford is making the program optional so dealers can tell Dearborn they are out of their minds.

Is time to design vehicles that don't rely on as much technology, or chips. That's not going to happen, but consumers should be given the option of buying vehicles that don't need as much tech. Which isn't currently availble to build a complete vehicle.
