Too many people for various reasons conflate the term “crawl control” with the set of traction control aids available on the taco. I have no personal experience with crawl control because I have a manual transmission, but I have lots of experience with ATRAC (off road traction control) and I can say that it is lot better than an open diff and also better than TRAC (on road traction control).

What would be a situation where you might only want to disable the VSC (short press)?

Don't know if I know what I'm talking about especially since it's Friday, but.....If you were stuck, and one wheel was slipping (spinning), traction control OFF sends power to all wheels, not just the spinning wheel.
    If I'm incorrect, please ignore.

Spirited driving at lower speeds and in slippery conditions where you may not want yaw (fishtailing) corrected, but do want support getting power to the ground.

Remember, VSC corrects for skids, slides, etc. and tries to maintain the direction you are requesting with the steering wheel. It will not let you "opposite lock" to correct a skid like normal. So if you want the vehicle to be able to slip sideways without intervention you would want it off.

TRAC only corrects wheels getting power from losing forward traction and spinning.

So in a case you want help with traction (power to ground) but do not want support for the skid you would want VSC off and TRAC on. This is a common type of control setup found on many racecars today and can be highly desirable and effective. Unfortunately, the system on your truck isn't geared so much toward max tractive performance and cannot be tuned.

Ok so after playing around with the traction control on and off some more, I discovered that the dash board still makes the rapid clicking sound whenever the wheels start spinning, regardless. It also makes this sound when the crawl control is activated. Just confirming that this clicking noise is normal.

Old thread but I have a question regarding the traction control. Would it do any harm to the truck to leave traction control off every time I drive the truck? I plan to leave it on if the weather turns to shit, but I prefer the feel of the truck with the TC off.

It's fine to leave it off. Just be cautious

it comes down to how intrusive you want the truck to be. it defaults to 'idiot mode', where any wheel slippage or angle is bad. i generally run with it off when i can, as my level of acceptability of angle and slippage is far greater, especially in snow/mud/water...
