I do know that Costco sources tires through American Tire Distributors, one of the larger tire distributors in the nation.

There is a legal story to why California has "America's Tire" and not the usual Discount Tire. In Cali, there is a tire chain called Discount tire centers (purple & cream colors), which does tires and auto repairs. Due to trademark issues, Discount Tire does business in Cali as "America's Tire."

Not my experience. Last fall when pulling the boat my son tracked off the ramp and warp 10nd it over two stone walls with significant high revolution sidewall intrusion on both right hand tires. This included regaining traction and curb jumping the trailer which got two punctures. The BFGs were scuffed like a wife was parallel parking but showed nothing of what actually happened then nor in the months to follow.

Maybe it varies or something? I had ko2s and absolutely hated them. But they had a few good points. They did terrible on ice, packed and unpacked snow. Really poor traction in heavy rain and mud. Did well on dry dirt and never got a flat. They also wore really well. Got a lot of miles out of them. Still had a good amount of tread when I replaced them but had to due to tread separation. Personally I would not buy or recommend but others love them so whatever floats your boat I guess.

That's up almost $100 per tire since I bought the last set for my land cruiser three years ago.

Absolutely 0 issues with KO2s in snow or ice. They actually impressed me on this recent trip.

I drove for 6.5 hrs through mountain passes, the weather was pretty extreme going to our fishing spot. KO2s did fantastic on unpacked/packed snow and ice.

My buddy’s truck is pretty much the same. He is running dedicated winters, he got stuck twice, I had to pull him out. I did not get stuck at all. KO2s impressed me especially on unpacked snow.

Are there better tires for winter? Definitely. I just don’t know why so many guys complain about KO2s in winter or wet pavement performance. I feel totally confident driving on mentioned conditions. KO2s are also very tough, fantastic off-road and have very good road manners.

That said, I wanna try toyo open country AT3 or wildpeaks next.

That’s cool. I’m just sharing my experience with them like I said I know some love them. I have duratracs now they are ok but will probably go with cooper the next round. The tread life was great on the bfg’s so I figured the hard rubber that contributed to the long life was probably the reason for poor traction on the ice. And in mud they got packed instantly and wouldn’t clear and became like drag slicks but I still went through some shit with them just had to use a lot more skinny pedal.

Duratracs were amazing in the snow, especially unpacked. IMO it’s the best all weather tire for winter.

I don’t really go mudding, as I hate cleaning my undercarriage afterwards so can’t comment on KO2 mud performance, but I can see them not being a good mud tire.

There are a lot of awesome choices out there nowadays. KO2 is an old design, so that’s why I’m trying something else next.
