    Yes!

For the history buffs, Baja California was "California" first and just that name for over 200 years after it was discovered. The land north of the peninsula did not have a unique name so it was simply called "Alta California" (Alta means Upper) once the Spaniards began to occupy the land from San Diego and north in 1769.

Well, to prevent confusion in letters and so forth, Baja (Lower) was added to the name California. It also was called Antigua (Old) California and the other part was called Nueva (New) California.

The United States, in 1848, defeated Mexico and in the peace agreement decided to not keep Baja California, only paying for Alta California (which also included Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and more areas). The Americans dropped the word "Alta" from the name, but Mexico did not drop Baja from the name of their part of California. Today, the peninsula is made up of two states in the Mexican Republic: Baja California and Baja California Sur.

Only 4-doors come out of Baja. Living here in San Diego County, we see truck carriers loaded with them, northbound on I-15 and I-5. They want the old train line (San Diego & Arizona Eastern RR) re-opened to take them by train both east to Arizona and north.
