when searching for parts, its not easy to find any tacos at the salvage yard and a lot of parts don't cross over to other models so where should our parts searches be targeted at to get the most results to find the parts we need? blind searches are tirelessly unproductive so which states and which towns offer the best selections for 1st gen taco parts

Around here people buy the entire truck when one comes in. Haven't seen a Taco or 4runner in a long time in a junk yard in Alabama or Georgia.

yep but I don't have the money or a place to dump it to be able to do that, I just need a complete set of power doors in good condition with everything on them so I can strip them for everything but the shell so I would need to hook up with someone buying one or be first in line when its advertised which is why im asking here for when to concentrate my searches

Tacoma parts seem to be very hard to find Because the ones bought back during the little frame issues all went to the crushers . What a waste of good parts.

You can look at Car Part.com but so often the inventory on line does not really match what is on the ground.

I have been looking for a few years now for another for a parts truck being unable to find one.

Could you make the 4Runner Door parts work perhaps with buying some new parts.

There are two toyota truck salvage yards here in the Asheville, NC area - and another an hour and change away in Lenoir, NC.

Here in Miami, FL I went to two U-pick yards and no tacomas, One employee told me that they get shipped overseas, probably Caribbean islands.

no, based on cross checking part numbers nothing door related matches anything but Tacoma with the sole exception of the door lock mechanism.

thanks, could you let us know the names of them if you have them?
    thanks
    thanks
yep that's like a lot of places so that's why I created this thread so those of us in the "slim pickings" areas can know where to look and maybe who to call for stuff

you guys are great and this is good info, im sure others will be able to add more to the thread as they find it as well

for now it seams I should concentrate my search in NC and Denver areas

yes thank you, im glad for your help and appreciate it so don't take this the wrong way, but im not made of money.

carparts.com takes $100 parts and resells them for $700-$800 because that's where they make their money so im not willing to drop $1600 for a pair of doors that have a real world value of "maybe" $300-$400 if in great condition.

they are a great resource but cost a heavy premium to buy from them.

I don't have unreasonable expectations for prices things cost, but I do have to get "somewhat" reasonable prices charged for the money spent on used parts I buy.

Well see the problem is, you are going to carpart.com.... That is wrong.

you need to go to car-part.com

from car-part you buy it directly from the salvage yard...... it gives you the salvage yard phone number and you buy it from them. its just a search.

whattya know.... doors for $100 each.
click the link below, make sure your on page 7-8, about 50 doors $150 or under/each

    http://car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?userSearch=int&userPID=1000&userLocation=All+States&userIMS=&userInterchange=BFABAO&userSide=&userDate=2004&userDate2=2004&dbModel=73.26.1.1&userModel=Toyota Tacoma&dbPart=120.1&userPart=Door Front&sessionID=200000000000000000794663832&userPreference=price&userIntSelect=1573589&intDate=2004&userUID=0&userBroker=&iKey=&userPage=8

Going by Toyota Part # `s between vehicles very seldom matches .

The few things I bought through Car Parts .com local were priced pretty decent .

I hope you find what your looking for.

In Maine the only Tacoma parts you'll find is one in some ones back yard the parts yards don't have any.

ooooo k that explains a lot

cause the prices at carparts.com were through the roof, the prices at car-parts.com are much more reasonable.

not sure how someone can have another completely different company with someone else using the same name though????

    lol :)
    i am not sure either.

but i can tell you that i have bought tons and tons of crazy cheap parts from CAR-PART.COM and they were perfect. one time i got a slightly bent spindle, the yard sent out another one in less than a day and i got to keep the old one.

Spindles with manual locking hubs were only $35.00 each
tacoma CV axels were only $20 each
Tundra CV axels were $25 each
Plus shipping. i could buy the spindles and sell them on here in the used section for $150........LOL

FYI-most of the real cheap parts are rusted to shit and from the east, but work fine IMO.

im talking with someone now on a pair of panels that "should" fit my needs but when I asked for pictures to see them all they sent me was a stock photo of the back end of the wrecked truck it came from? :smack:

how the hell is that supposed to let me know what the door panel condition looks like before I pay $150 for the panel plus $100 to have it shipped to me lol

im not comfortable buying high priced used stuff sight unseen on blind faith and trust that the other persons idea of what looks good is the same view as mine?

I have to check the distances but at this point im thinking it might be worth it to take the 5 hour one way ride to go pick them up if I have to pay $200 in shipping charges for them. it would be a hell of a long all day drive 320 miles then back again but that's only about $70 in gas but I better damn well see a real picture of what im getting first

I know you're in the south, but Sacramento, ca has a butt load of toyota junkyards. Google "rancho cordova toyota junkyards". Hope this helps...
