They are great for when that fancy new iPhone can't get any service, read my previous post it may be old technology but it is far from outdated. I'm guessing you have never bsed with people over the radio or asked a west bound what he left behind him. I love cb's, not everyone that has one has a rebel flag flying from it.

Yes, it is the 75WX ST, the antenna is a Wilson 4' whip. I forget the name of the bracket but it is discontinued - best to find it on Ebay or a redneck CB shop that may still have stock. They were designed specifically for tailgates/hatches/door jambs. As for the range, I don't know the distance but it does the job for my needs. Handhelds in general aren't going to be your highest output. You're going to want at least 18' of coax if you run it like I did, to get under the driver side dash.

Well, Thanks everybody for the replies. Except for this jackass. Now I know why I've never visited the west coast. I prefer a little southern hospitality over running into a narrow minded SOB such as this. I'm going to install mine either tomorrow or thrusday afternoon. I'll let you all know how it goes. As for this guy^^ :brianr:

Don't worry about this when reading reviews ALL CB radio's when leaving the factory can only have 4w of output power to be legal your range is determined by how well your antenna is located/setup. To you and OP if you want a "Starter Kit" check out RightChannelRadios.com they have everything you need to get a good set up for a good price. You can "Peak and Tune" your radio to put out more power but I've found that it really doesn't make much difference so I don't spend the extra money to have it done.

When I get the motivation mine is going on the side of the console. Is that a galaxy 949 or 969?

I just let mine ride under the drivers seat with a long enough wire-loom whip so I can pull it up into my lap to change channels if I need to. Not ideal but the best non-perminant solution I could think of. Center console stuff isn't deep/wide enough for mine.

I got some industrial velcro from Lowe's and mounted mine here:

Works fine, but when the wife drives it has to come off and sit in the floor for her to move the seat all the way up. I'm thinking of moving it between the console and steering column soon...with velcro again. I still can't bring myself to drill a hole in my truck..:)
