One of the benefits of the factory equipped security system... you can't lock your key inside.

18 year old basic cab, not 4x4. Not exactly sought after by theives. I decided on the less secure key box so as not to have to stand in the rain removing my taillight, which I think is a more secure hiding spot.

I never hid a key I am always a believer in carrying two keys of any that I might need that day.

vehicle key with shop key is in my right pocket when not in the ignition.

All my other keys are in the left pocket where they pretty much live

I have never been locked out

That's the beauty of cell phones and remote start you don't need the key. Just hide the extra unchiped key inside and unlock with phone

If it’d been colder than 40 F outside, I might have had to do that. BTW, I’d set my wallet inside. I’d only gotten outside to retrieve something from the bed and didn’t realize my elbow silently pressed down the door lock. The door gently closed shut...Doh! I bought a key box today and reached under to a spot that once secured was in such a position that my fingers could not get leverage to pry it loose...double Doh! Pried it to loose with a screwdriver. Damn, those magnets stick on HARD ! I placed it an area where my fingers can now pry it loose. No need to tape over it, that’s for sure. The idea of using the aforementioned super tape is a good one too. Much easier to make harder for theives to find. I’d suggest doubling over one end of the tape so your fingers have something to grab onto.

I mean, the only conceivable way would be if I manually locked both doors from the inside for some reason
