I replaced my clutch, flywheel and throw out bearing this weekend with a kit from Centerforce. First off, for me, this was a huge job to do in a garage with jack stands on a creeper and cardboard. Took about 7 hrs to get everything off and another 7 to get it all back. Spent about $130 for a transmission jack and 6 feet worth of socket extensions.
My oem clutch would start to grab around the top 2 inches of travel. The new clutch grabs around the bottom 2 inches. I don't know anyone with another manual Tacoma to compare it to so I'm wondering what others are getting for pedal travel before the clutch engages.
I bleed the line once when I put it in. I may bleed it again and see if that makes a change.
This could be completely normal, I just have no comparison. I also have less than 30 miles on the new one so there may be some change some more drive time.

Mi e is still oem and it grabs in the last two inches of the peddle. I'm assuming you setup is still hydraulic?

Yes, hydraulic clutch. After thinking about it some more, I think I will start there and bleed it again. I only did about 8 pumps of the clutch to bleed it when I did it after the replacement.

I happen to also have a Centerforce clutch. Mine engages around 2 inches of the bottom I guess?

Dang that’s too bad it’s grabbing differently. I test drove a manual truck about 6 months back that also had a new clutch and it grabbed at the very bottom quick. this was a 2001 F150.

felt awkward getting back in my Tacoma. either it needs to be bled or the master/slave cylinder is going bad.

That's good to hear. At least there is some consistency. The Centerforce feels like it has a lot more grab than the original. The original was getting worn so maybe it just feels new. I also have the heavy flywheel. It must be about 15-20 lbs heavier than the stock. I think about 45 lbs in weight. My real world test is getting up my driveway. I can keep the rpm's down and it just crawls right up. The oem needed a bit of gas and ride the clutch a bit. That flywheel was a real joy getting it lifted in place while on my back and getting a bolt started.

I somehow burnt my OEM out under 40K miles. Never have I ever burnt a clutch out. (I put 155K on an 05 Corolla and my 15 Jetta has 110K currently. Bought both new and both had no clutch issues.) I went with Centerforce because they got great reviews and they are in AZ. I really didn't see a point in putting OEM back in if it was going to fail so quickly. I also had my mechanic do the accumulator delete. Then I happened to grab a Core shifter too, so mine is a lil different than most, ha. All that plus a weighted shift knob from @7r41lbr34k3r when he was making them.

Every time my clutch gets smelly it's from reverse, thanks Toyota for the horrible 3rd gen reverse gearing...
