And below, the Buttermilk area, west of Bishop. My first time on both roads. Also went up Silver Canyon, fourth time but first in the Taco and first time in ten years. It seems to be a lot rougher than before. Not technical but man is it steep! 6400' climb in about ten miles.

Went to Holy Jim trail last night. I got duped in trying a trail that isn't for noobs. Nearly crapped my pants and it's harder in the dark.

I thought that looked familiar! Didn't think that there were any Long Islanders on this forum. How did you get out on the beach in the snow? I thought it was closed by that point.

    There's a few of us around :)
If anything, smiths point is more de-restricted in the off-season, with the entire length of the beach available. If the snow is deeper than 6" of so they'll usually close the driving portion of the beach to prevent too many 'rescues' of stuck vehicles.

A few of us, eh? Good to know. Had no idea about the winter access. It'll give me more to do over the winter. Heading up to Hunter mountain 4x4 "adventure" at the end of the month. Ever been? Have you found any decent legal trails within a reasonable distance of the Island?

There's a few 3rd gen people on the Long Island thread of the NE subforum:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/long-island-ny-tacos.101181/page-157

I haven't been to Hunter mountain 4x4 yet, looks like a fun time!

I don't know of legal trails on/close to long island, but I've heard there's an long island off-road club that does an event or two each year on private property. The trails are technical/tight trails, looks like it wouldn't be any fun with a mid sized pickup.

I've noticed there's a few previously blocked trails in the Shoreham area that have recently become un-blocked, but I'm certain they aren't completely legal for motorized vehicles. Honestly, I'd be satisfied with some hilly no-winter-maintenance roads like they have in central PA for instance... anything to switch it up from the usual beach driving!

The first thing you need is new tires. You do not need a lift to 4-wheel. Bilstein 5100 shock upgrade would be great. Once my rotator cuff surgery recovery is done, I am upgrading to 5100s with 1-notch up on the front to level the factory rake. Happy trails.
