MTS and Crawl Control are forms of Traction control and will limit wheel spin. In this case with the mud geyser, it seems he was overpowering these systems which is more than likely why the oil temp shot up. I've seen it happen with several vehicles equipped with ATRAC and other forms of traction management systems. In these cases when you have them on its best to use easy/steady throttle and let them work. For the times when you really need the tires spinning its best to turn the traction control and VSC completely off by holding the traction control button down for 5 seconds. I'm by no means saying what I'm suggesting would have got him through that hole but it would have helped with the trans temp.

I was just up there very recently pretty much in the same spot, how did your truck make it up the section in the second pic? I needed my rear locker on and used crawl control on the upper section. Also bent my rock slider on Pontiac sluice which is a bit further ahead of that spot.

He mentioned he didnt turn it on until he got proper stuck. We were watching and laughing for a good 15-20 minutes as he tried different things. Not for nothing, but personally i skip a-track and go for the locker. I have a manual so no crawl cntrl. But you sparked my curiosity so I read up on it. Its seems to be more useful than I'd been giving it credit for. Gonna have to fuck around with it and see for myself. Though, still dont thinks it's good for mud. Maybe. Idk. Thanks! Probably would have continued to disregard the system if not for these conversations.

The amount of traction control systems on these trucks makes it hard to understand but once you master them, and are able to discern when its the right time to use a particular system they are huge benefits. When you use the locker and the systems in conjunction these things will climb a tree if you wanted them to.

Attempted Table Mesa Rd today. Buddy with a ML decided to try the very first water crossing and flooded his engine. Took two vehicles to tow him out of the river and then back across the river. Luckily my buddy is a professional MB mechanic and got his ML back up and running after pulling the plugs and getting the water out of the cylinders.

After giving up on Table Mesa we went up and did Bloody Basin Trail.
