Various trails in the area. 2WD friendly if you're careful. I might post a group run through there in the SoCal section.

We went to this recommended trail from a friend. Surprisingly beautiful and tons of offshoots. The reservoir at the end is really pretty.

VOTM is awesome even with a stock truck. You will rip those steps off soon if you haven't already though...

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Got out fishing again. I think 10 trips deep in the mountains over the last 8 weeks. Good times.

This last trip not so good. Went to a new spot. Did some reading online, no mention how dangerous the road is. The road climbs 5,000 feet in an endless series of switchbacks. I have driven a lot of bad roads, but this one has long stretches truck width with crumbling 100 foot embankments on the "safe" side. The other side the road is falling apart, undercut and washed out and 1,000 to 2,000 foot drop offs straight down. Once I got on it, kept thinking it will get better soon, has to. Nope and no turnarounds so I had to continue. Absolutely no stopping to take pics, too scary to get out of the truck. Two pics of the road here before it got bad and I had to put the camera down. Nerve wracking driving.

The road should be barricaded and blocked to all traffic. There are 5 lakes once you get to the top, but they need to cut a new road in from a different route. I am going to do some followup with the local town up there and recommend they block it.

I have done more than 500 solo remote trips with my trucks over the years. Lots of bad roads and breakdowns. Even walking 15 miles out once. That is ok, not going to kill you. A road like this is a death wish for anyone who has limited experience. I can't imagine rookies going out with their trucks and stumbling onto this trail. Bad scene. Don't need 4x4 gears going up, but you use them for safety as a back end slide could be very dangerous here. If it rained this would be mud and you'd be screwed even in 4-wheel.

I tried to find a different route out at end of day. Found one option that looked possible but it was suited only for ATVs. On my GPS i saw that it was about 30 miles out on that ATV trail.

Anyway, did get some fishing and caught a few small trout. Saw some deer and a nice cow moose. Fished a nice lake and it had one camp spot with a table, but definitely not going back there again. Next week up to Highway 24, the "fishing highway" in BC. Hundreds of lakes, many barely accessible. I've fished about 30 lakes up that way. Looking forward to that.

Where is this at, or do you know of any other good places to off-road in TX? Originally being from Arizona, it's a struggle to find good off-roading here.

Berdoo Canyon Trail into back side of Joshua Tree. Was a fun drive for sure. I'd say this is a good introduction trail to get your feet wet with a couple minor rock climbing spots and a couple optional obstacles you can try out if you're in SoCal.

Woohooo! My daughter is living down in 29 Palms (Marine) with her new husband(high school sweethearts), the entrance to Joshua Tree is right down the street from her house. I’m going to go visit next week and might have to go check this one out!

Awesome! Thank you for her service... and you should definitely check it out. I believe it took about 2 hours to get through Berdoo canyon and into Joshua Tree, but was well worth it.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
I was down there last summer and drove that canyon. As @Steemax pictures show it's a cool area with fantastic scenery.

Central OR and some balancing rocks

When I find somewhere I want to go, I usually drive an hour up into the hills and get some great camping in 4wd

Sounds like a heck of a fishing trip! What area were you in ? Were you on a FSR road?

Found some mud out by the retention pond at work. Wasn't much but got the job done.

Its on old coast rd. If your heading south on Hwy 1 its just before bixby bridge on the left. Looks like a parking lot from all the cars... Propably why I never realized it was there. Anyway, its about 11 miles or so. Pretty easy drive, no obstacles. 2wd accessable.

Beautiful truck , May I ask what exact front bumper setup that is ? It’s exactly the style I would like for mine.
