Here’s a shot overlooking some of Prescott just to give you an idea. Payson is decent too, but it’s A LOT more quiet than Prescott. Plenty of outdoorsy stuff in either town. I enjoy being *around* either town, but I can’t say I enjoy being in Payson itself much. Prescott isn’t large, but there’s much more going on there: Embry-Riddle has a campus, Ruger produces firearms, there’s a lively town square with festivals/events every weekend, etc. Payson has rodeos and not all that much else. The White Mountains and Mogollon Rim are close to Payson though too. Prescott is pricier, but if you’re used to HI & California prices, you’ll find it a bargain. Just have to experience it yourself, I suppose. All depends on what you enjoy most.

Highly recommend checking out SDHQ in Gilbert, AZ for any of your Tacoma or general offroad needs. They’re top notch & highly respected in the offroad industry, carry a huge inventory, build all kinds of parts in-house, are extremely knowledgeable, and can either install, help, or fully build anything you need from overlanding to full King of the Hammers race-spec. They are a tremendous resource.

went on some trails in Sedona AZ
They were all moderate which was very unfortunate, cause it’s the first time I’ve ever taken the taco offroad, realized how overbuilt it is, can’t wait to take it on some trails in Cali and fuck some parts up..

anyways here’s some lame flex pics.

Still says in your profile (left side of your post) that you are in Kona, HI. I was wondering where in Hawaii that it was desert

When I took that trail, I thought the same thing. Boring along the way and at each end. On the way back I took an alternate trail from about the half way point. The pic on my profile is from that side trip. Had some pretty hairy climbs but was more fun.

Officially parts of Kailua Kona are classed as ‘Hot Semi-Desert’ and further up the coast is classed as ‘Hot Desert’. The big island has 10 of the 14 climates on Earth.

We’re traveling so my truck still has Hawaii plates too!

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Hey Andy, yes there are hundreds of lakes to explore just within 3 hours drive of where I live. I mostly fish the Thompson Nicola, Cariboo, and Okanagan regions in BC. Those are 3 of the 8 main regions to fish in BC, and together they have several hundred lakes to fish with many that require 4x4 access and many that are hike in only. With some research and exploration you can find many lakes to fish alone.

I have a few lakes less than 2 hours away that I can fish alone that require 4x4 access. I can fish in peak season with no one on my favorite lakes but me. I keep those spots a close secret.

In my liftetime I have fished about 130 lakes in BC, plus rivers and streams and also 15 years working the high seas on west coast commercial salmon trollers and halibut boats. So up to 100 miles off the west coast of Vancouver Island and also Haida Gwaii, or Queen Charlotte islands as they were called back when I worked on the boats.

After a lifetime of this I am still addicted to it. All my waking hours consumed with what fishing area to next explore. I only fish the remote lakes as I need that solitude. For me it stops being nature when it is filled with trucks and campers.

Hope your grand adventure is still going well. I see you left your truck in England for a while to get in some sunny climes. Me, just waiting not so patiently for April and May to arrive so I can get back up into the mountains to fish and find new fishing spots. Here the mountain lakes are frozen until actually late May, and the mountain backroads under 4 feet of snow until mid April.

I drove that about 15 years ago in my Subaru. A fun easy road. I was nearby in my van last week and thought about it but was worried about snow.

If you’ve never been, an unexpectedly fun & lesser known trail out West near Salome is Harquahala Peak. Really enjoyed that one.

    That's a beautiful area.

These fires are only going to get worse. Here in BC, millions of acres burned, not to mention all the rangeland, farmland and entire towns burned to the ground just last year. Last year we had 1,600 fires in BC with over 5,000 square miles destroyed. That made it only our third worse fire season, with 2019 and 2018 being even worse. Heat and drought.

Several of my favorite and secret remote lakes that I have fished for 40 years, were encircled by fire this past summer.

I am a bit afraid to go look once the snows leave, I doubt there will be much to see now. Here is one of the spots before the fires.

Will see what it looks like in the Spring if the roads are open. Small trails and I expect just covered in downed and burned trees making it impassable.

The expansive pine beatle kill areas to the north took the big fire hit in the proceeding years. Reminded me of 1981 and 1982 when Northeast BC and Southeast Yukon burnt out 2017 when North Central Washington burnt. The change last year was the fires were in more populous southern BC.
