Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Another fishing trip yesterday. Last time I was at this lake was 32 years ago in my 1986 Ford F150 4x4.

If it were to rain heavy for a day it would be very nasty, very likely winching time at a few different spots. A lot of sand and clay, turns to axle grease in heavy rain. Has not rained for a long time here so it was fine.

It was 3c when I arrived in the morning, and 27c when I left at 5pm. Remember those kind of days from Calgary

No one else at the lake. Seven rainbows on the fly, all released. Small ones, with the biggest being 15 inches. One was the size of an anchovy. :)

How’s the truck running? Dual case all good? 37’s look good, clearing now?

Got a new tune the other day so motor wise she is pretty peppy even with 37s/stock diffs, finished the duals the other night so this was the first test besides around the driveway. That is working great and stoked to play in the rocks, just have to finish my new skid plates and waiting on a tcase part/seal that I forgot, so she slings a little gear oil out of the shifter plate. Otherwise, tub job clears besides the body mount bolt at full flex/lock, which I try not to be full lock anyways. Thanks for following along!

Nice! Good work. Your truck looks great! I’m on 34’s. Had to trim the fenders with the jd fab LT kit installed. Was debating on jumping up to 35’s next. Not much of a difference but it is at the same time haha. Dual case is a future plan, just not near future haha. Definitely looking forward to your feedback

I forgot to get a picture with the truck, but a friend took me for my first off road experience last weekend. He bragged his tricked out Wrangler was going to go some places my Tacoma couldn't, but my mostly-stock Tacoma handled it like a champ. Here's a picture I took during a break. The mountains are in northern Utah.

Don't underestimate a stock TRD OR. Very capable with zero mods.

    Absolutely.

Other than bilstein 5100's (no lift) and BFG KO2's, I am at maybe 130 off road trips in the past 3.5 years with my 2016 TRD OR, access cab. Retired, so I have the time to do this.

It is my 4th 4x4 over the past 35 years, and none were lifted. All had just slightly improved shocks and 10 ply tires for off road. Somewhere in the area of 500+ off road trips now.

Don't neglect the tires, go 10 ply if you are frequently off road.

Most of my roading is similar to this photo, and covers about half of the province. A lot of truck width trails.

Fishing, hunting, and camping. I personally have no interest in rock climbing unless it leads to a fishing or hunting destination, so I have no need for a lift or added suspension components.

Note that all of my trips in the past 20 years have all been solo remote. I never travel with another person or truck, so testing the limits like in the true rock crawling thread on tacomaworld, is not a good idea. Especially if it means a breakdown followed by an 18 hour hike to get out. Not fun and I have had that and a few other similar experiences when I was a young pup. :)

If you off road a lot like I do, go prepared. My toolbox has every imaginable recovery and survival piece of gear I might ever need. Plus even for day trips, I bring 3 days worth of food and water as the spots I go are remote and I seldom see another truck or person. I have a few times needed to spend a night in the woods when the trail out was too risky to drive at night, so having the food/water and such sure makes it a lot easier.

On pretty much every trip I am on, I tell my wife I might have to spend the night if it goes too long. I use a satellite text message device to keep her up to date when that happens.

When you go alone as I do, leave a good map/itinerary with your family about what routes you expect you will be taking, and use the satellite phone during the day to show your coordinates as you travel.

Here in BC, in just about any spot you travel you will find hundreds of logging roads that criss-cross. Good luck to anyone finding you if you don't leave them some idea where you are headed.

Of course for those new to off road, the good old trial by experience waits...

That’s an amazing spot!!! Fantastic pictures!
You wouldn’t want to happen to share that location in a DM would you? :fingerscrossed:

Pretty flawless! Did actually break the shifter, but was install miscalculation/guessed it might happen. Thought my poly motor/tcase mounts were going to be here for the first trip but they got delayed, so just ran the stock soft mounts this weekend. Shifter ended up breaking from the drivetrain flexing, and the shifter contacting the center console pretty hard since I didnt leave much room for flex (drivetrain will hardly move once I put the poly mounts in). Otherwise, truck has gobs of torque now and can lightly throttle up anything. Shorter rear driveline is nice, as it doesnt hang as low as the stock one.

That looks bumpy. Were you stuck on that rock, under your driver-side LCA in the 3rd pic?
