That’s Kern County. Frazier Park area. Actually it’s still green up there with the amount of snow they had. But yes, it’s starting to warm up, and fire season is here.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Got up early Monday with a plan to pack up and explore a couple of hike in lakes the next day. The forecast for Tuesday changed that plan, so I quickly loaded up my gear and headed out.

New lakes for me. Online reports said the first lake was hike in, but at some point someone had widened the trail and the drive in was fine.

Too steep at the lake to launch a cartop boat, so my belly boat was perfect.

No bites, but I saw a couple big ones jump. Maybe head out tomorrow and try to locate the other lake.

Heavy on the mosquitoes and horseflies again due to recent rains.

Had a great time cruising on the beach with my boy a few weeks ago. Aired down to about 20lbs all around and had zero issues!

Yessir! Mostly cruising between Frisco and Buxton. Much less crowded through there than down at the point in Hatteras where I usually stay. Didn't get over to Ocracoke this trip, but hoping to again next time.

Nice! That's a great area to explore. Corolla was crazy last summer. I got a trip planned for Cape Lookout in August. Definitely looking forward to some beach driving.

First time off-roading for me. Went with some friends to Ouray, CO. Enjoyed it! This was the Governor Basin.

Drove up to the top of Mount Defiance in Oregon today. The road is steep and shale-y, so the rocks were jingling as we drove along. Low range in first gear was the order of the day.

The hikers (suckers) up there were confused to see a vehicle at the top, one lady accused me of cheating but loved my dog, and another man asked me if I was the Uber he ordered. It's all public land and totally fine to drive up there, but the area is more known for hiking rather than wheeling.

Oh no! How illegal is that! Ahhhh where is a Karen when you need one!

That is PERFECT! Teaching kids real world dangerous (sometimes) stuff under Dad supervision. Great job Dad! Keep it up.

When I got my learner permit to drive my dad took me to an open and empty parking lot to get me learning how to drive/control a car in the snow. Get going 10mph or so and lock the brakes up, turn the wheel and find out you just go straight until you release the brake. A cop showed up thinking it was some kids being stupid and left after telling my dad more people should do this with their kids. Slow speeds of course noting dangerous. Probably very frowned upon but it’s a lesson better learned slow and controlled than on the road after an accident.

It’s those “dad lessons” that stick

I bought my Tacoma on Feb 25th. Things have finally melted out enough to take her out in the mountains this weekend and my work schedule finally allowed for some time off.

I off roaded up Yankee Boy Basin, drove up to Odom Point (that was scary for being new at off roading), Cinnamon Pass, California Pass and Animas Forks. Just beautiful scenery.

Going up the road to Odom Point, I learned the value of having a rear locker and my sliders. I was solo and so I pretty much had to figure out things on my own and there were definitely a few gut check moments half way up. Navigating a sharp turn at one point with a rock shelf on it, I was just spinning tires. Stopped, put it in nuetral, pulled the e-brake and engaged the rear locker and turned off my traction control. I was already in 4Low. Adjusted my angle and gave it another try. She crawled right up that rock shelf without any hesitation. These trucks are tanks!

Cant wait for more off road shenanigans. It was a blast.
