We get the smoke down here from up there. I feel for those who lose everything in those fires. Stay safe up there

    Absolutely!

It does wear though when it is back blowout #201. Three years work disability because of it.

Strangely, our bones don’t improve as we age. :)

Having dealt with it for 30 years now, I know all the tricks to recover and after 4 weeks it is slowly coming around. Already scouring my maps online to see where my next trip will be, and armed with a bunch of prescription meds for the back in case it flares up when off road.

Getting harder to access some spots due to the wildfires closing 3 of my alltime favorite areas in BC. Gotta keep going further. A day trip this week counting offroad driving looks like about 250 miles of driving to check out terrain and a lake new to me. One area is supposed to be major grizzly bear habitat. Would be nice to get some photos. They are out there and active with late season chum salmon runs still ongoing.

    Roll on…

Out yesterday. Well no salmon in the river, so no grizzly bears. Was hoping for some photos.

Beautiful area though with fantastic moss filled old growth forests of cedar, hemlock, spruce and fir.

Not sure where in Wa State you live, but you sure travel to go play or check articulation. Middle of nowhere. Lived here all my life and never have been in this area. Looks like fun, good camping ?

Not the OP but there is quite a bit of camping sites around Elbe. There’s some ORV trails and not sure of the camping situation there. A great place to play/camp around there is Skate Creek Road. It can pretty popular but if you get off the pavement you’ll find some beautiful spots, it’s just on the SW side of Mt Rainier.

    Howdy folks,

I have only had my 2023 TRD Pro for a couple of weeks, but have already made two trips up a local forestry service road (Squamish River). On October 13 2023, I ventured up 30 km to a beautiful "recreation site" beside the Elaho river (see pic below).

My son wanted to check it out, so on October 20 2023, we went back with a plan to head up further to Maude Frickett water fall. There had been heavy rain that week. Unfortunately, at the 21 km mark, the road was completely taken out by a mud slide. When you look at the picture below, it is hard to believe that there had been a road there before, which I had driven on only a few days prior.

Anyway, I'm loving the truck - and I guess my message is, enjoy things in the moment, because you never know what Mother Nature has planned.

Wow, are the rivers around squamish all dried out from the summer drought, or just diverted by the slide?

Back in the 70s and 80s I used to fish the Elaho and every other river up there when we lived in Vancouver. I imagine it must be pretty busy with fishermen these days in Spring and Falll compared to the past.

Another favorite fishing spot, was shore fishing from Garibaldi lake. Great fishing for 16-20 inch trout. Hike up usually first week in July after ice off, and spend a few days up there. Bring the essentials, beer, southern comfort, and some weed and hash. Not condoning it…. Only if you are into those sorts of shenanigans.

Really nice truck you have there.

Enjoy the trips out into nature but don’t forget the shovels, axe, saw, tow rope, first aid, tarp, tire repair, tire pump, and other emergency gear. Always bring spare water, food and clothing if venturing further out.

My truck toolbox is packed with about 250 pounds of repair and recovery tools.

    And beer.

It was bad. About 200 homes lost in that West Kelowna fire, and another 200 in the fires up in the Shuswap area. We were fortunate and did not have to evacuate. The fires the last 10 years are not the fires of past decades. They burn so hot now due to drought, amd once going it is mostly a matter of getting out of their way.

Thanks for your reply - yes, it was quite a dry summer, and that picture of the Elaho was before last week's rain storm. The Squamish River was really flowing on the 20th (see pic below) - the water level on the 18th was over 6000 m. I was not expecting the trails to have been so wet and some parts were flooded. In retrospect we should not have gone alone without a winch and recovery tools that you mentioned. But it was a hoot, and I got to spend the day with my son, who recently moved out and starting his own life adventures.
