Hi I live In tempe AZ and me and my friend want to go out to the desert and do some target practice and shoot water bottles and such just some plinking with our .22's but I was wondering If anyone could give me some advice on a place to go that I hopefully wouldnt have to drive an hour and a half to get to but also where its legal and we won't get into any trouble doing it. i read That the law is 300' from a road and 1/4 mile from any occupied dwelling is that true? Just looking for some advice thanks guys!

and p.s we will be safe and pick up trash and brass.

I generally just go to a range.
The biggest problem with finding a desert shooting spot is legality.
If you are still in a city's " limits" you can be in big trouble for firing in a city's limits. Many city's have expanded their boundrys and what used to be O.K. may not any more.

Glad to hear your wanting to do some cleanup while you are out there.
People are amazing to me when you see the trash left out in the dez.
    Have fun and be carefull.

I live in N. Phoenix so I go to Table Mesa Rd. or the Ben Avery range.

You can shoot in National Forest land, just be safe about it and use common sense. Legally you CAN NOT target shoot on any State Trust Land. I have a private outdoor range that I get permission to use in Florence, so I can practice all that "Move and Shoot" stuff I'm supposed to train my muscles to do. Check the Tonto National forest website.

Double check because I know there is no target shooting in parts of Tonto N. Forrest; hunting only.

Let me clarify on my last statement...yes, Packerfan is correct. Certain areas in Tonto National Forest, may have areas posted no shooting.
