Where is Apple Car Play Option

I thought to invoke Apple Car Play you accessed the Menu:
Menu> Setup> General and within this location turned on Apple Car Play

I don't have this option... any clue?

 

Did you plug in your phone with a USB cable?

 

You gotta plug in the cable to the usb or get the wireless dongle to have wireless apple car play.

 

Still didn't work, tried 2 different cables - I think it has something to do with allowing Tracking and Siri or some other b.s. that I don't want it to do.

When I do get into the CarPlay section on the Iphone it searches for Available Cars but never finds anything... would only use it for navigation but I can get this via audio from Google Maps already. Still would be kinda sorta cool if it worked...

My kid will come around in a week or so I'll have him set it up.

 

Siri needs to be enabled I know that. When I take long trips I turn on siri so I can use carplay but other than that I dont because the audio is worse through carplay than bluetooth for me (aftermarket HU)

 

It’s gotta be the USB port under the radio also..

 

Right, I'm using that port. I'll summon my kid when he gets back from his post Master's Degree Vacation.... his car is in my driveway so I'll
hide his keys until he does the deed.

Side note: congrats to your kid graduating with a masters!

 

As others have said, it can be very finicky with cables. Try to use a OEM apple one if you can. I just recently had to buy a new oem cable because my knock off ones kept disconnecting randomly but were charging just fine.

What's more, he owes zero in student loans - the Master's degree was a free-ride 100% plus salary,...
Kid has more money in checking than I do LOL ...
Daughter got her second Master's degree last weekend too... with honors... she too was free-ride 100% plus salary...
And she has more money in checking than I do and is interviewing at major Universities.

So I'm a damn happy camper on that front.
