I just bought a Limited, but i couldn't find the locking tailgate key, they only gave the wireless key. Anyone got any idea the dealer hide the key in the truck?

Mine was attached to the key ring along with the fobs, however when my girlfriends dad picked his 16 up he couldn't find the key and it turns out they forgot to give it to him. They drove the 30 miles to personally drop it off at his work. I'd call the dealership and tell them you never received one.

They should have given it to you with your key fobs.

Same thing happened to me. Dealers weren't experienced with the 3rd gen yet and weren't aware that the other keys (that resemble older base model ignition keys) actually went with my truck. By the time I realized I needed those keys, they had lost them, and I was up the creek. Every week it was another promise that they were "still looking" and before I knew it, months went by. I ended up having to call Toyota to get to the bottom of it. Tailgate was re-keyed 2 days later.

I got a truck with a manual transmission and was given two keys. Are you saying there is a third key I should have that is just for the tailgate? My keys lock everything just fine...what am I missing?

Is there no push button start on the manual transmission TRD trucks?

Exactly that. If you get the 3rd gen, auto, with tech package, you get push button start which is 2 key fobs with 2 useless removable little keys in them that only open the driver side door. Then you get a second set of keys for the tailgate. And maybe the glove compartment. I don't remember because I have too many frikken keys.

Edit: If you don't get the tech package, I believe your key ring is simplified to an older school key that unlocks everything manually, but also has an unlock/lock/panic button.

No, no push button start. I have tech premium package but my keys are still the old school manual keys with lock, unlock, panic buttons. I didn't receive any other keys. I'm gonna go check my manual case see if there's any thing I missed.

Just try locking your tailgate. I'm guessing I only got a key because mine is push button start. Stupid they couldn't figure out how to have a fail safe so the TRD manual trucks could have a push button

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
The key in the fob locks the glove compartment as well. Separate key only for tailgate.

OP, call dealer and tell them, they should have it.
