It does not have to have the tech package. The TRD and Limited with auto trans. have push button start. Manual trans uses old school key.

I completely forgot about that key. When I first got the truck I stuck it in the center armrest lid that has a key holder on the inside. Safe and sound, as long as I remember I put it there.

They had my key attached to the spare fob. Of course since there is only 1 I went straight to home depot and had a copy made!! Dont forget the tailgate key also locks the glove box..

I'll get two, just in case. I may just go to a,locksmith & get two made. Could be cheaper than OEM.

Mine doesn't, have to use the key in the fob for that. Manual says tailgate only.

Thats interesting.. I was told that mine is for the tailgate and the glove box.. I will have to check..

As long as you have the key code, the keys are not chipped so might be easier to get 1 from the dealer and then have a spare made at home depot for like $2. Sometimes the locksmiths charge quite a bit to make a key if you dont have one for them to copy.

I dont know if they can cut it based off the code or if they need to see the physical key for their copy.

mine was in the glove box, but the sales person showed me as he put it in there.

First mod I did was add the door lock solenoid to the tailgate, now it's operated by the key fob or door handle....as it should have been done by the factory

I went to Canadian Tire and had them cut me a copy of my T/G key...$2.49, I think.... It did not work so I filed a little off the tip and it's "good to go"... I then cut that big plastic head off of it and sawed off all the "extra" metal (that was under that plastic crap).... It now fits in pocket without all that extra "bulk"...

    Works 4 me...!!
