Maybe if it was a single cab truck. Honda should cut the roof off the Passport, and build a single cab Ridgeline. Wait, it would still be FWD, and no solid axle to be found anywhere.

I'm not your typical 'truck guy' that has any real brand loyalty. I test drove a Ridgeline, Tacoma, Frontier, and Colorado when I was in the market (March/April 2018). The Frontier felt horrible, and by far the worst of the 4. The interior was so outdated it felt like my in-laws 2004 Honda Civic. This was a top-of -the-lin Pro 4X model too. The only thing it had going for it was pedal feel/throttle response because the powertrain has a little more 'pep' than the Taco.

I always find laughable when mainstream auto publications write about trucks and Jeeps.

You can tell they are genuinely fascinated by basic concepts like articulation, and become hypnotized by ordinary off-road features like lockers, crawl ratios and swaybar disconnects.

When I shopped for a truck with which to replace my Wrangler, I test drove Ram 1500, Tundra, GMC Canyon and Toyota Tacoma. I avoided Ridgeline and Frontier altogether. I haven’t had very good experience with Nissans, and IMO Honda has no credibility building vehicles you can go very far off-road.

I was horrified by Tundra’s dismal MPG numbers, and Ram’s price was a non-starter. I was torn between Canyon and Tacoma: the GMC has far superior use of cabin space, significantly greater front and rear seat comfort, a smoother ride, car-like handling and class-leading MPG numbers. Tacoma brings sportier looks, greater off-road cred, Toyota quality reputation and the best resale on the market. What ultimately won me over was Tacoma‘s feeling of solidity, its quiet and refined cabin, and the positive online reviews my only local Toyota dealership gets.

Had I known that my leg would cramp after sitting in the Tacoma for 45 minutes, and that I’d be feeling driveline shudder after only two weeks...I might just as easily had ended buying the GMC.

Tacoma is in the heart of all of us, on the face of every baby, and mostly resides in our debit and credit card transactions from our wallets.

Why does Honda, Audi and BMW get all kinds of love then?

The media really seems to specifically target Toyota/Lexus. Even Nissan, with their absolutely terrible quality vehicles, doesn't get the same amount negative attention.

I think it starts with Toyota being the least innovative and exciting platform.

I don't know, I was specifically addressing trucks with my response. I've never met anyone who drove a Toyota, that didn't like that Toyota.

If what the media reports about Toyota is true, I have no problem with them reporting it.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of "innovation" when it comes to vehicles.

The mainstream auto media loves anything that is new, bright and shiny...and is fun to drive.

Honda tends to make vehicles that are engaging to drive, same as BMW and Audi.

Either that, or they just serve better canapés at their media events...

If i remember correctly, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeeps has filed for bankruptcy in numerous occasions, last time i heard was back in 2008-09. I always try to stay away from companies that have gone thru such experience making wrong decisions etc. (Fiat, LOL)

I was happy to find a Mexican place when I was there, I really wanted to buy a Taco in my Taco while I was in Taco. Would have been really nice if the place was called Taco Taco.
