I have been under my truck three times now and for the life of me cannot figure out where the fill port is for the transmission. It's driving me insane. I need to see the bolt to determine if the dealership actually removed it to add fluid or not since my truck is still experiencing the dreaded transmission issues many of us are having. They said they checked it, some fluids ran out and they added fluid back in.

Passenger side just forward of the frame crossmember. It's in kinda a recessed spot. Look for a green wire and follow to where it connects and its in that general area. It will have a WS stamped on it. There is pics in one of the AT threads in this forum I'll see if I can find it. They have to check it when the fluid is between 95 and 113 degrees. There is a specific procedure to do it.

Thanks. Found it and took a picture of it. unfortunately theres no paint marking on it to tell if it really had been removed or not.

Ya you can't tell by looking at it. Or the overflow plug. I did it myself after learning how. I can only say from my experience that mine was 3/4 qt. low and there was a noticeable improvement in smoother shifting after it was corrected. Did they reset your transmission learning? There are a couple good threads on this subject in this forum. "Transmission slipping when cold and after reverse" and "still problems after trans fluid top off, possible fix"

Disconnect the battery for half an hour. It is supposed to reset the transmission learning. I did do it right after I added the fluid on my check. Figured it couldn't hurt. Others have posted a significant improvement. I guess the theory is the transmission learned bad habits operating with low fluid levels and continues if you don't reset. Let me know how you make out if there is an improvement. Maybe disconnect when you call it a night and reconnect in the morning. I can tell you from at least my own experience after doing the check and adding appropriate fluid and disconnecting the battery. There was a noticeable improvement. No more hesitation from R to D and shifting is smooth and seamless. There does seem to be a number of others at least if you believe the threads that have similar experience as myself. But if your dealer fibbed to you or didn't do it correctly it won't matter.

I don't understand this statement. If when they checked it fluid ran out, if anything that means it was overfilled. Proper fluid level is indicated by dripping from the overflow plug with the trans in the proper temp range. And then they added fluid back in? If you check fluid level and it was sat, and only a few drops drip out, should be no need to add any.

Actually a few drops doesn't mean any thing, if only 5 or so drops come out its suggested to refill until you get a decent flow. Just to be on the up and up

Agreed, I guess what I mean is if it ran out as they said and slowed to a drip, there would have been no need to add any.

If only a few drips and stops, it is definitely low cos there will always be some fluid trapped in the overflow plug from the last time you drove and heated up the trans fluid fully.
