You'd be correct, with a heavy dose of nearly a decade wrenching and managing shop to get through college to get there. People think cars are just like they were 20 years ago and don't realize the absurd leaps and bounds that have been made even in the past 10 or even 5 years.

Do you need a cookie? Maybe a gold star? Definitely a calculator because ain't nobody getting 8% off a TRDOR while paying sticker for an SR. Hell my dealer has 2 SR V6's for $30,325 right now and their closest TRDOR is still $34k compensating for the tube steps. Since you apparently can't math, that means they're getting a similar discount.

Please! I submit! You have convinced me that adding a V6 to a SR makes it worth the same as a TRD. All those extra tech options in the TRD, the locker, the flares, the Bilsteins, oh my I can't possibly go on... aren't worth anything.

I'll buy the Bilsteins off of you for $14. The wheels too if you let them go for under $50.

I’m not trying to take a stand here. Just saying that people are willing to pay that for a new Tacoma, so Toyota can charge that.

The Tacoma must be pure profit for Toyota. Trucks are cheap to build, and they get pricey when you start adding options.

The crazy part is how for most other manufacturers the mid size cost as much, or more, than a full size.

The most effective way to create change?
Hit Toyota in the pocket book, vote with your wallet, and don't buy one.
While fine folks, the TW folks have zero pull in regards to Toyota's pricing.

need to learn more about this stuff
Why is a 32oz big gulp $.50 and a 22oz is $1.10? Smaller cup... less soda... it doesn’t make sense.
    Why is a 20 piece McNugget $5. But a 10 piece is $4.50?

Who cares. That’s the answer. Buy what you want. If you don’t like how a company prices stuff. Don’t buy it. Or go make your own company and price it out how you want to.

I would say having so many options is good, but it's a real pain finding exactly what you want anyway.

This is exactly right. Pricing strategies are complicated business. At the end of the day you simply buy what you want, and can afford. The rest is Toyota's problem.

There's a lot more to it than R&D and manufacturing costs. These trucks (also Tundra, T4R, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia) are horrendous on gas and every one sold is negative points towards their CAFE rating. It impacts the strategy across the company as a whole because they have to design their other cars and CUVs to be more economical. By pricing the trucks higher, they ensure high enough margins to make these compromises worthwhile.

So, if I understand your logic...They offer a discounted model with no options, that you are confused as to why it costs more with options?

The SR has always been a bad value for the money. It primary exists to given Karen at Ecolab and Terminix and Josh who just graduated college with his degree in contemporary art of the mayans something to buy.
