So, I am ready to order my ebay OEM parts kit for the cam timing belt replacement and it turns out there are two styles of water pumps - one for 3.4 L engines with an oil cooler and one without. My understanding from asking around is nearly all of the 3.4 L engines have the oil cooler, so where in the heck is this thing located? How can I tell if my truck has one? Wouldn't it be up front near the radiator to get some cooling air flow? Well, I don't see one.

Man, whoever put the clamps on them the first time didn't think things through. Had a hard time getting to them.

There's an o-ring behind it. Best take a look at it and replace it, along with the coolant hoses that run to the water pump.

I already ordered new upper and lower radiator hoses, but now that I know about this, I think I will order the two hoses related to the oil cooler, too (15778-62030 and 15777-62020).

Is this a maintenance item mine is getting up there in miles 260k should I buy a new oil cooler? Maybe just swap hoses and the o-ring? Thanks.

The hoses are a maintenance item
The cooler it self is a as needed. If it leaks coolant or oil. Or if you get oil in the cooling system. 260k on mine with no problems.

Ok mine doesn't leak but those hoses should go, along with the o-ring then. I did get coolant in my oil for a bit, but caught it before it completely ruined my oil and my main bearings are ok should I replace it anyway? My intake manifold was leaking coolant into the heads, after swapping manifold gaskets it picked up power. Just wondering if that oil cooler could have took a dump, but my scanner doesn't show temps out of normal.

If you peek between the inner wheel well and the rubber skirt on the drivers side you will see if you have one on the block. All these years and never knew I had one or where it was till I replaced
the rubber skirt inside the wheel well, hehe

It's under the exhaust manifold so you don't see it from up top

Maybe these videos will help you out. Be sure to watch Part 2 for an easier way to get the timing belt on and other helpful info. Also be sure to read the video descriptions for more helpful tips and additional information.

Maybe it is in part 2, but I watched part 1 awhile back and they couldn't figure out how to get the new belt on.
