These fires. The Midtown Suckramento riff raff (bums and their intentional mess making) I’m beyond done with city life. Are there any tiny home communities or places to go and simply live off the grid? Of course now that our forests are burning at an unprecedented rate, I have no freaking clue where to go in search of peace. I just want to downsize and live an even simpler life than I already do. I can’t be alone in that desire.

West Marin is simple living. Definitely not crowded and never Smokey. Bolinas, Inverness, etc. a little spendy with regards to home prices but if you’re renting there are deals to be had.

What will you do for money?

Unless you're retired or disabled or something.

I'd still keep my job as a hot tub technician. Potentially do my own thing in the future. Who knows

Have you thought about Colorado? Plenty of hot tubs in resort towns and you can always live further out in one of the small towns, it'll add to your commute, but it'll be quiet one. Friendly people, like minded, love nature, love the quiet. Plus you can go ski/snowboard/snowmobile/snowshoe/snow camp in the winter.

There are manufacturerd tiny homes <600sq ft available w/ <$350/mo hoa in some parts, or you can just live further out and have your own home.

I have indeed considered Colorado. I was born in Colorado Springs but I haven't been there in ages. Perhaps it's time to go back.

lots of hot tubs up here in AK. not quite off-grid but if you are serious i have contacts at a hot tub/water quality place and a line on a dry cabin. very simple and quiet. cost of living is higher, but thats a trade off of being away from a big city.

A lifetime ago when I was married I tried to convince my wife to go to Alaska. It didn’t happen. But it’s just me and a dog now, so it’s on the table. One hurdle would be going through Canada with the sporting equipment I own.

Just ship them to an FFL in AK. You won’t be the first person to ever move to alaska with guns.

The moon, you won't need anything once you get there. Mars is to far, and the women are from Venus.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe there is a "moving exemption" of some sort for going from CONUS to AK.

You can take certain types of firearms with the right paperwork and it's really simple. I just showed up at the border with the paperwork and a typed up paper that itemized the 5000 rounds of ammo, 5000 primers, and 15lbs of gunpowder in the back of the truck. Ten minutes and twenty Canadian doobers later and I had a stamped piece of paper without them ever looking in my truck.

An alternative is take the ferry from Bellingham to Whittier and never worry about going through Canada
