Where's a good place to buy a stock, 2.4 motor?

I have a 2004, 2WD Tacoma Xtracab and I'd like to start budgeting for a replacement motor. I use the truck for basic transportation, so gas mileage and not performance is my preference. The standard output of the stock motor is just fine for me.

I'm not looking for anything out of the ordinary, just a solid, well built motor that will last. A rebuilt motor is fine if you think the builder does a good job.

Should I just buy a brand new, factory motor from the dealer, or...???

    Thank you,
    Ed

I thought about the junk yards, but I'd prefer a motor that I know was taken care of from the first time it was fired up.

My experience with junk yards is a crap shoot.

EF, give Toyota Auto Dismantlers a call, they're in your neck of the woods out on Recycle Road in Rancho Cordova, off of US 50/Sunrise Blvd.

However, its been my experience they aren't as cheap as you may think. At the very least it's worth a phone call to get an idea what the bottom line is.
