I purchased a PT228-35200-AA grill from Conicelli Toyota(online). They said that Toyota will only sell PT228-35200-AA as a service replacement. As a result, my order has been cancelled and refunded.

I have a 2022 TRD OR on order and my dealer said I'm next in line for a silver or MGM TRD OR Premium DCSB. So I'm wanting to go ahead and purchase the grill insert. I'd really like to go with OEM and already have the garnish. I also don't really want to spend $400 on an Ebay one. Conicelli sells them for $174(+tax and shipping).

Thank you very much. I just placed an order at toyotapartsdeal. Price is similar to Conicelli. Hopefully it will process without issue.

I first tried ordering from Toyotapartsdeal, they never asked for a VIN, but they cancelled the order after a day due to being "backordered" with no ETA. I tried a few other sites that didn't require a VIN, same story all cancelled.

I ordered the PT228-35180 grille for my 2021 from Lowe Toyota. they required a TRD Pro VIN, I found a used one for sale online, and copy/pasted.

Chose to go with this one because I didn't want a front camera cutout and wanted silver letters.

Thanks for the advise. I'll keep that in mind.

Looks great. I plan to add the front camera so I kind of wanted the new version. I appreciate the response. I thought the one I ordered has silver letters..... maybe they are grey. :notsure:

My understanding is there are two "different" OEM pro grilles. One is the one that actually comes with the Pro truck. That one has the grey Toyota lettering and usually requires a pro VIN to order (as people have noted, there are exceptions to that rule). The other is the pro grille that comes with the TRD lift kit. That one is all black including the letters, no one fusses about the VIN, and can be purchased separately from the lift kit.

If you have a front facing camera the only options I know of are the OEM grille or Taco Vinyl's version that you can order with the garnish and front facing camera bracket. I went with the latter and it was all plug and play, and no issues with the TSS sensor or adaptive cruise. I chose theirs over OEM because my reading showed that some folks had to trim the camera bracket or buy one from Toyota to get it to work while Taco Vinyl's was good to go as delivered.

I would of liked to have bought OEM grill last year but instead I went with EmpyreOffRoad's grill/garnish/smoked amber raptor lights.

Install took me a while but I did it last month.

I recently tested the "Automatic High Beams" (the push button is on the left side) and engaged the high beams and it worked like a charm.

The first TSS test I did was for the DRCC and LDA functions at highway speeds--everything worked as advertised with no errors.

Here is a timeline of the part numbers as I remember it from first having a 3rd gen in 2016 up until 2022.
    • PT228-35170 SILVER TOYOTA First available part with 17 in the PN stating the year(no pro's in 2016). This is the $500 version that anyone can buy that was intended for 16-17MY without TSS. In the beginning this part number was packaged poorly, many shipped with broken clips. I remember paying full price when this first released.
    • PT228-35180 SILVER TOYOTA Number change with 18 with an empty spot in lower grill for TSS. Garnish 531413-35060 was only around $68 when first available. 18 PN I believed sold for around $200 but Toyota started to control purchases and requesting VIN along with this order. I think we got away with the $68 OEM TSS garnish until 2019 or 2020, which is now almost $300.
    • PT228-35200-AA SILVER TOYOTA Number change with 20 as pro came standard with a front camera. Not sure the reasoning with adding AA to the end of the part number. Still around $200 but parts controlled by requesting VIN. Garnishes are no longer $68 by the time this new version released and cheap TSS garnishes alternatives populated our web search.
    • PT228-35200-20 BLACK TOYOTA This is the TRD lift kit replacement part number and sells for $135. I don't know of anyone successfully purchasing without the lift kit with those beautiful fog blanks. I'd buy this to mount on my garage wall if I could.
    • PT228-35220-AA BRONZE TOYOTA Number change with 22 as standard issue with 2022 Trail Edition same mold as 35180(no camera) just with bronze lettering. Around $200 and PN is not controlled by Toyota.

I appreciate the response and explanation.

I didn't realize that the TRD lift kit grill didn't have the silver or grey letters. I just looked at a listing for the kit and see that the grill does in fact have the black letters like you said. I like the grey(or silver) letters so I'm happy about that.

TacoVinyl is my 2nd choice because I've read some good thing about them.

Don't know why people just get one from Amazon. Everything is the same people. Both the toyota or the Amazon one is just plastic.

With that logic, you should just buy a Kia.... Kia and Toyota are just metal and plastic. ;)

This needs to be saved, pinned or whatever we call it now. I’ve been looking for a thread that had this information for a while.
