installing a in dash navi/video system about a year ago I somehow shorted something out in my dimmer switch (Jerez was the one who figured that out for me) and I haven't gotten around to buying a new one yet because it's only a minor annoyance that I can't dim my dash panel, but I think because it's not plugged in other things aren't working either, such as the lights on the steering wheel controls, the light in the window switch, my AC unit lights, etc. Could anyone confirm that this would cause that problem (if it's not plugged in it wouldn't be creating a circuit right?) and also where I could get a new one from other than directly from my Toyota dealer who want like $140 for one?
    Thanks.

I had the same problem while messing with some wires and shorted it. dealer quoted same price. issue is the dimmer switch is only in our trucks and theres no after market out there. lucky they covered it under warranty

if the switch is unplugged my shifter lights wouldn't work and the steering wheel lights if I remember correctly, mines 2013 Tacoma don't know if circuits are different or not

I still haven't fixed mine, I think I'm going to go to a pick apart place near me and see if I can't find one of those, a new shifter knob, a back left 4x4 mudflap, a roof rack, back window motor and a few other little things I have written down but can't remember

Mine occurred when I put an add a fuse to provide power for 2 plx gauges. I think something got shorted. Now, the dimmer setting on the tacoma gauges seems stuck on a high setting, with the dimmer doing nothing. Also, the HVAC lights don't work at all. Kind of a nuisance when driving at night... Might it just be a blown fuse? Suggestions?

If your dimmer switch is not working it that could have shorted. the only thing else it could be would be something in the cluster but you said its on high so it cant be that. if you know someone else with a Tacoma you can attempt to use there working dimmer and see if yours is shorted. if that's the cause its a $140 part

Those all should work. Toyota only use that design/type of dimmer switch. go luck with the issues.
