When I shopped for my 2019 TRD-OR I used carprices.com for this, but that website no longer seems to work for that. Any other sources for the latest 2021 MSRP/invoice prices for all the options?

I think if you brought up dealer invoice right now a dealer is going to laugh at you. It might work if there's stock on the lot, but these days nope

Thanks. What I'm considering is trading my 2019 for an equivalent 2021. The dealer I bought from left me a voice mail saying they need used Tacomas, and they also sent me a letter where they implied it's possible to do a key-for-key swap where I'd not have to pay anything. That seems unlikely since the 2021 equivalent to my 2019 has a couple-few grand in extras (MTM, power seats, etc), but since I wasn't looking to sell, I'd want to figure the maximum I'd be willing to pay in additional cash.

They're aware my 2019 TRD-OR is in great condition because they did my fuel pump recall work. KBB.com says my '19 TRD-OR is worth $42.6-46k for private party sale, which is more than I paid for it. They don't currently have any TRD-OR's on their lot that are equivalent to my 2019.

With no dealer add-ons and no port-installed options (which seems to be impossible to get these days), the closest equivalent 2021 to my 2019 has an MSRP of $44.6k. But every TRD-OR seems to have $500-2500 of dealer and port options added. Anyway, the worst that can happen is they'd decline to meet my offer. I just need to figure out what additional cash I'd be willing to pay, and I want to consider invoice pricing in that, whether they like it or not. The sales tax subtraction if I'm trading in a truck approximately the same price as the new one should make sales tax a minimal factor so the only additional thing to pay would be license/registration.

I don't have high hopes, but it seems worth spending a little time on.

Dealers don’t make money doing key for key swap for the same vehicle and you not paying anything.

Sure they would. They make whatever profit they get from selling the used vehicle, which can be thousands of dollars. Margins on used inventory are often higher than new (and they could sell my 2019 as a CPO, which is even more profit). Also any holdback or monthly quota bonuses that selling the new 2021 added to the mix.

And as I mentioned above, I'd consider some TBD amount of cash for such a transaction, so that would be additional profit.

Exactly. You start with MSRP, and then figure on a hefty dealer premium. Heck, when I ordered mine last October, it was at MSRP minus the $1,000 Toyota rebate. Things have gotten much worse since then.

Dealer's sales depts don't call because they're going to help you out. They call because people get excited about getting a new vehicle and in all the excitement they allow their stool to get pushed in.

It's even more impossible if you have to buy from a dealer in Southeast Toyota Distributors region. They don't even buy you dinner before....well, you know...
