There's a plug to check your rear brakes???

I've always pulled the drum to check. Only plug I know of is the one that covers the adjustment hole, but I haven't done a brake job on my truck yet, so I dunno...

Why ? Your truck is 2 years old max how many miles do you have on it , drum breaks last forever

And seeing as how you assume there are 2 plugs back there I suggest you take it in and have a professional do the inspection or stick your head under there in look I'm sure you won't be able to miss them and if you do refer back to the professional comment

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
Make sure that you have the metric bolts available than screw into the threaded holes in the brake drum, they make it easy to remove. Otherwise you may beat the snot out of them for no reason.

If you try and remove the drums you should back off of the adjuster before forcing the drum off with those screws to prevent damage.

...because the drums may drag the top ends of the shoes outward where they enter the brake cylinders and they have aluminum tangs and BREAK THEM OFF. Ask me how I know...

There is a small round rubber plug on the edge of the backing plate that looks like it has a screw driver slot in it if you pull it out you are looking right at the break lining.

When I put snow tires on my truck for the first time I removed the rear drums cleaned all the edges and applied antiseize later on you'll be glad you did. That being said the old 97 had the original rear brakes at 285K! It really depends on where you live and how you drive the 2011 has 70K on it now and the fronts are at about 50%
