Lol... every certified safety inspector I know loses their inspection license within their first year of owning it. Too many lifted trucks & dropped cars... not enough "friends" ;).

dude.. if you have a lift just go get it reconed. They aren't crazy. If you have stuff that is done bad, it won't pass and you shouldn't be on the road with it anyway. The one thing everyone does wrong is stick their tires out 8-10 inches with no fenders over em.
Beyond that, its not too hard to get a recon.

If you're not connected enough to already know where to go, you aren't connected enough to get away with it. "some guy on a forum said you could help me out ... wink wink..." won't get you fixed up. Nor out of the shower of tickets later.
I have HPD friends, but even then, not close enough to the right people to get out of recon. But I've never had a problem getting recons. Try to roll into a place with a lowered suspension or even tires more than an inch off factory and most places will turn you away quick quick. Not to say they won't let a 2 inch spacer slip by.. but I think that is frequently ignorance.

Just do it right. The laws aren't tough, just for everyone's safety. Talk to some people with the R and see what they say they looked for.
Last recon I got, they just pushed on my radiator support to make sure my suspension would deflect and gave me a sticker.

like he said above you should go get recon. your lift can be high but the tires cant stick out super wide. so if you got 16 inch wide rims and spacers throw the stockers on and go get recon. you cant have dark tint or tinted lights or plate covers and thats about it.

I know where to get safety's but it's a hassle so I dont help anyone out who's not my close friends/family.

I've seen em fail someone with tires that were just bulging past the wheel arches, and as someone on the road behind you, I hope they do fail it if the tires stick out. Keep your off road off road...

I got my Recon updated and passed no problem!
It's a big hassle to find someone every year to get safety.
Just do it right and you'll have no problems!
Some people put stock tires or garden liner on, and get the recon. BUT! They need to do that every time they go in for safety check. It's a pain! (The recon paperwork will state everything on your truck, and the station will check that) Don't loose the paperwork, or you will have to do it all over again!

Remember the foot print of the tire cannot stick out past the fenders, and you need rear mud flaps that cover also!

    Good Luck!

^ x2 at least you'll be able to pass recon, and HPD won't bother you as much. it is a PITA but at least you'll be legal.
