Never really been camping, but I would like to go. I would be sleeping in the bed of my truck.
, so nothing too extreme. Just to basically get my feet wet. Thoughts?

if you're just in the bed of the truck, think about mosquitos. And I'd wait til it starts to cool off a little bit as well. Just look at state parks in your area. They'll be a good place to test the waters for a reasonable price. You could try Mustang Island sp and camp on the beach.

I quite enjoyed Garner State Park. Some good hiking followed by a dunk in the river. I was there on weekdays and had the place to myself. Not sure if it gets rowdy on weekends. They have poopers and showers.

I have also camped on North Padre Island, both on the beach and in the designated camp area where they have poopers and showers. Both were nice.

Pick a state park that is close to home I case things go bad. You will know where things are in case you nend to buy something and if things go really bad your bed is just a short drive away. Pack more water then you think you will need or get a site with water. Bring a way to cook some food on top of cooking on the campfire.
