I've got a Kenwood TM-241A.... Not a detachable face model. I'm looking for a nice way to install this in the truck. Anyone got some good ideas? Post pictures please!!!

I'm not sure I want to break down and buy another mobile unit with a detachable face.

That's really the rub right there though, isn't it? Maybe on the passenger side of the trans tunnel, like people often do with CBs. I've got an ICOM 2730a that needs to go in at some point, but I'm really going back and forth constantly about where I'm going to put the head.

I was looking at the same issue. I'm just going to get one with a detachable face plate though and even then finding a good spot might be challenging

detachable face between the sunroof and the mts/cc system seems like a good place

all the switches I will use I'll mount where that little useless cubby hole is the left of the steering wheel.

I was looking at that particular unit. Is it a good unit? I was also looking at picking up a 706 MKIIG, but getting a new-in-box is difficult and a bit expensive so the ft857 might be in order.

I haven't actually used it yet, been sitting in the box in the corner of my shop for the last 8 months. Just getting by with my HT until I get around to install. I really like the size and configuration of the head, plug on the back instead of the side is nice for keeping things hidden and mic from head or radio is cool. Pretty sure I'm going to mount in the space between the sunroof and map lights/roof controls. I think the head is just small enough for that space, I just need to sack up, pull the headliner, and start cutting into it.

As to the 2m/440/HF, I only have my tech ticket and I haven't put a lot of thought into upgrading to general. Maybe someday.

I have seen some different radio installs into the center console, looks like a PITA to install. But if your on to 2m you know you gotta have it. I like the 241a because you can receive only in the marine band I believe...gotta a be some new radio gear out nowadays...

the 2730 appears to be a solid dually from what I have read, however if im gonna spend 4-500.00 on a dual might as well go for the all-mode uhf/vhf/hf setup and do it once and be done.

The Yaseu FT-8900R can be had for $329, but I have the Kenwood.
