    Hey y'all,

I'm wondering what the best place to order valve shims is? I need them to be exact down to the thousandth of an inch.

    Cheers

Toyota can order them. Also if you can go to a junk yard and get a bunch. Sometimes you can swap them around too, so you don't need to order as many. And you have a range of factory spec. As long as they are somewhere in the range, you'll be fine.

Toyota only sells them in increments of 0.05mm ≈ 0.002in. Factory engines had shims in increments of 0.01mm ≈ 0.0004in, so you could get lucky and pull some from a junkyard in the sizes you need. The same shims were used in a lot of Toyota engines. If you want precision you may need to take larger shims to a machine shop to grind them to exact thickness.
